Shit happens! Totally agree with you on the toilet stuff - there's a compost toilet in Aune Farm campsite just up the road from me and an open cold shower. The toilet doesn't stink and there's no backsplash. I read in a toilet once, "In some countries they don't understand why you would take perfetly good drinking water and shit in it!" Craziness...Also on the same topic - my Mum gave me a brilliant book called "How to shit in the woods" it's brilliant, funny and mostly informative on the most eco way of dumping without damage. It's a must have book for everyone!
Here Here Well said Cat, think it comes across clearly that you are not just addressing the feminist movement, particularly in the last few paragraphs, anywho... X
vehicles to be relocated great blog! if you want to save a bit of cash the company Apollo often have vehicles to relocate from North Island(Auckland) to South Island(Christchurch) and vice versa. They even pay for the ferry so you only have to worry about the petrol. Call them to find out. Free number: 09 889 2976

what is it good for? ah cat, the gender war...
I guess this is only a fight if we want it to be, it seems that neither gender is going to go away any time soon so co-operation is a good strategy.
As a male I would like to take issue (or perhaps debate with hope of concensus) with some of your post. The idea that the natural world is feminine and industrial society is masculine doesn't hold true for me. That seems to be a feminist reading of history. Marxist historians by contrast would hold that industrialisation was carried out by the rich (men and women) to further enslave the poor. I certainly believe that men have hardly been the sole beneficaries of industrialisation nor have women been the sole victims.
I guess that it's also worth pointing out that the feminist movement was not a female only movement, there were men who saw the inequalities women faced as wrong and supported the calls for change. And now there is a Men's Movement in it's infancy I feel it's just as important for women (and especially feminists) to get involved in this, rather than seeing men as 'the people with the power who are stopping us from leading fulfilling lives' and look at this sub-group of society as any other to see what are the genuine injustices they are facing.. Quite a lot of it seems to be currently in regard to being seen as equals in law (as it is applied by courts) as parents. Strange how men are having to fight for equal rights in nurturing - a good place to build from if you want to a more sustainable future me thinks

rash? Hi Cat! This was a while back but I just wanted to say that i did a massive de-tox a couple of years ago and i came out in a rash all over my neck/back/shoulders/belly. sounds quite similar. it was really uncomfortable but i was lucky in that i knew what it was so i just kept thinking of all the crap coming out of my system and found that after that i didn't mind it too much!! xxx
Very interesting to read it all Sounds like a load of stuff to take on board at once, and in as different situation as a media pro in norf London as can be!
So often people with energy and determination to lead projects and groups have inflated and fragile egos. Maybe the self-confidence to forge ahead with direction comes with a price. I know from experience that if someone new bursts into your world with fresh ideas and energy it can be exciting and hugely positive with dramatic results, and at the same time threatening and annoying. If someone has put their life into something for years, they will find it very hard to bear that they may not have chosen the best way of doing things, and that may well only be learnt through gentle encouragement or demonstration, approaches which take a lot of time.
Someone was telling me how to run a festival the other day which was bloody annoying coming from someone who's never done it, and it was really hard to listen objectively to see if they had something worth saying or not. In the end I decided not! Ha! Oh well...
Also the fragile male ego when faced with an intelligent, dynamic, tall and attractive stranger may not be able to cope! Mind you, I've seen the same situation in same sex relationships and fragile female egos too.
Anyhow, I expect you're still on the beach. Say hi to Doug and all the other Brighton types you'll doubtlessly encounter down there.
A big hug, happy new ears,
Marcus xx
WOW, all sounds so inspiring A lovely journey so far Cat, Im very much enjoying reading all about it. Although I have only just caught up with it all, I look forward to your next post when you're in Oz.
just time Just time to say hello catherine, before i head to work, and the grind. Just had my personal review and some negative things came out, so have been rather frustrated myself.
anyway i have finally logged to your blogg now and know where to find you. I am happy now you have found the real people. Carry on using those intincts and stay strong sis. lol.
You Go Girl!! Cat - you know you are one of the few people I know that can truly follow their instincts - We all should, but few are brave enough to. Reading your entry made me feel so proud to know you. I don't think EverGreen were mature enough to see what you had to give to them - Such a shame!
Time is money Love ya work :o)
Your time and effort is more than a substitute for money, kind of makes that well known Capitalist phrase in your rather non Capitalist world... Time is money... quite relevant.
Good Luck Angel....xx
Wooop wooop!!! So glad you saw the light at the end of the tunnel... and particularlly glad you left them with something valuable instead of money. Well done for getting yourself out of there. I think you deserve a big pat on the back for handling the situation in the way you did:-) Keep up the good work and good luck at Solitude. Can't wait to read your next blog. Love The TwirllllllllllllllllllXXX
You rock darlinX Hey Jungle Woman.
NEVER EVER DOUBT YOURSELF - OK. You haven't got this far in life only to be knocked by a few strangers. Your blog is inspiring to those who will never get the chance to go further themselves with a personal project with development interest. Even though its tougher than first thought, you're experience will teach you stuff you never thought it would. With time, you will begin to realise what those aspects are, but they are personal and only yourself will know.
Already you've accertained the need to move away and be with those who don't zap all your energy. That takes a lot of courage in an unfamiliar country with strangers testing your strength in terms of your own safety and security.
I'm very glad you've finally met up with other like minded people so that you can begin to build upon that journey of self discovery. I also can't wait to hear your next blog.
Keep up the good work. Be true. And if you ever need to skype me look me up under leanna twell XXXX
Wicked! Wowsers... what a journey eh? Love the blog.. keep em coming... just remember though Cat - any bloke that tries anything on... its a kick in the BALLS. Haven't had to use that move yet... but you never know when it may come in handy...And believe me i've got a couple of stories to tell you where i've nearly had to use that method..... So be strong - power to us women out and about in the wilderness... (Ive just got out of Vancouver Island rainforest and had to deal with a dirty drug induced logging guy who knew i was alone in my mates cabin). Big love - can't wait to see picsXXX

Sounds amazing, so great you are doing something useful and not just backpacking like the rest of us lazy munters. I'll be sending my boyfriend out to you for a detox soon.... lotsa love xxx jody
Yeeaaaahhhhh!! Nice move re the taxi pick-up. I remember we did the same thing in Mumbai, would have been quite scary trying to negotiate a cab at 3am after long-haul from UK!
Sounds like you're settling in nicely, look forward to reading more/seeing pics. Alxxx
Nice one cat! Cant wait to hear about what the project intails... Probably a lot of shelter, and good use of rainwater?
