Quito and Guayaquil Sorry but you have been given wrong information, Guayaquil is not "more than twice the size of Quito", according to the 2010 census Quito has 2.2 million people and Guayaquil has 2.5 millions, which makes them pretty close in population. In the case of the area of the cities they are also pretty much the same size.
hey guys I don't know if it's Justin or Chris that's writing these blogs, but they are so well written and so interesting that I thought I should let you know.
Love you guys and hope we can get down to visit you in a couple of months.

WOW! Well, congrats you two! Sounds as if you've settled in somewhat and teaching school. oh my..now that's WORK! I know from having only 2 grandsons, but kids ARE exhausting.
Am enjoying reading your entries and still envy your spirit.... stay cool!
best, Patricia
P.S. it's quiet and boring here in DCASP!
Very much so far... have been able to find jobs and an apt., which we move into today. The city is quite beautiful and has been very nice so far. How are things in Chicago?
No Good Reason We knew that we wanted to live abroad, and we love South America. It also seemed the most logical reason since we wanted to work and volunteer and learn the language. Ecuador is cheap and safe and has many interesting areas... Cuenca is the cultural center, with many universities and museums, and has a bit of an expat community, but one that's not so large that you feel like you're still in the States.
Glad you made it Happy to read your first entry. And even happier to know that you missed the big snow of 2011. It was not a good time, I might add. It may have been fun if I were about 50 years younger, but shoveling out the alley is not my idea of good times in Chicago.
So stay healthy, get acclimated, and enjoy! Looking forward to more entries.
Why pack up and move to Ecuador? Why not? As we try to make our way in South America, we'll be chronicling our successes and failures, our attempts to learn the culture and the language, and our experiences as strangers in a strange land. Sure, they'll be some traveling as well, but mostly we'll be figuring out Cuenca as best we can. Join us on our adventure.
