Stunning This is absolutely amazing! Your perspective looks like you are standing directly on a waterfall! I have never seen this before and although I know that Brazil is spectacular for scenery, I had no idea how spectacular it truly was. Thank you so much for sharing your photos.
Tereré-love it Hi! I´m a 17 years old German student and I love Tereré since having it brought from Ascunsion. I have now 500 grams of new Yerba Mate from a friend who comes from Argentina. Has anyone a recipe to mix own Tereré? I tried with normal Mate tea you can by in the supermarket, peppermint and lemon flaor but it's not the same.

Terere Que bueno es tomer un terere en usa, todos te quedan mirando, jaja, soy de Misiones Argentina y el terere como el mate nunca los dejo de lado, son lo mejor, aguante el terere y el mate.
Some corrections... Hi. The article isn't all that bad, there are just some corrections that need to be made.
1.- To everyone who would like to go to Paraguay: DON'T DRINK THE WATER IN ASUNCION (!) or anywhere else. Buy bottled water. Only in the Chaco in the german colonies you can TRY some of the water, but be causcious.
2.- It's more like everyone in Paraguay has 2 to 3 cell phones w/different companies due to the poor reliability. :-)
3.- The "bread baked w/cheese" is not a bread at all, but a biscuit type called Chipa. (Mmmm, you have got to try it!)
4.- Mandioca is hardly eaten raw. I don't know where you stayed, but I suggest you don't go back to that place. Mandioca is always cooked and absolutely delicious.
5.- but not least: You should probably not write about the Chaco if you haven't been there. The first Mennonites (from Canada) didn't get to the Chaco till 1927. There were no other people but different groups of natives in the Chaco till 1927. ( You can read more about that on http://www.gameo.org/index.asp?content=http://www.gameo.org/encyclopedia/contents/C4601.html ).
6.- Yeah!!! Long live the Trans Chaco Rally!!! And for those of you who don't know what is meant by "grueling", do check out the awsome fotographs right here http://www.transchacorally.com.py/online/fotografias_et03.php . Enjoy!
Market Hi Carl, it´s very nice to hear that people visit your country and have friends too! I just wanted to comment that market # 2 is still working, but it´s a small one. Best wishes and I hope you visit Paraguay again...cheers
please feel free to contact me in case you need something...
lived there.. I lived in Caacupe for 2 years as a volunteer for Peace Corps.. the people, the place... it is all amazing. One word can describe everything you see there... (including the dogs with udders)... LOVE. Thank you Paraguay. Rohaihu
Terere The terere has a particular flavor. It doesn't really taste like grass. It also can be mixed with other herbs to make it's flavor better and more refreshing
Bird Park This was spectacular. Too bad you and the cabbie didn't share a language. I think he scammed you. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the trip in spite of that incident. Thanks for the blogs.
Thanks for the well wishing and congratulations. Hello to all. I have enjoyed reading Carl's analyses and thoughts. I would like to submit something but I am superbusy and don't spend so much time in front of the computer anymore.
The most amazing pictures Carl, I have to say, you are so lucky to be where you are and we are so lucky to vicariously live your experience. It's great that you are such a fabulous photographer. The falls are absolutely gorgeous. I've enjoyed reading about your trip. Give the camera to Paul now and then, huh? I'd like to see you. Please tell Paul and Rosa I wish them the best. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Love, Kim, ex-train and boat navigator at the good ol' NBG
by any chance... Could you ask Paul if he knows Jennifer Boyd, who was in the Peace Corps in Paraguay until she came back this past December? She's a friend of a friend/coworker of mine in AmeriCorps.
Keep writing these entries!
Cocatlandia That's what we called a place near Manzanillo, Mexico, because EVERYTHING was Coca-Cola. I'll have to dig up that photo.
Also, those Virgin sightings and miracles are quite the money-maker for towns, aren't they? I remember taking pictures of people crawling on their knees to the Basilica in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, but the photos miraculously didn't develop properly.
Last year I wrote about my trip to South America (Paraguay and Brazil). This year's destination did not involve any international travel, just a nine hour drive across country with some old friends to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio and then to check out the sights in Chicago, Illinois.
