We were dropped off at one of the entrances to Shanghai’s Old Town, a mishmash of old, authentic Chinese style buildings selling touristy mirrors, chopstick, watches, bags, shirts, teacups and Starbucks. Not to mention the KFC and McDonalds. Despite the relatively early hour, it was full of tourists and locales wandering about. At one stall, MT and I each bought a silk, embroidered gift bag for 10 Yuan each- which according to Ying Chen, who I asked immediately upon arriving home, was a good deal. She said maybe it would sell for 15, so we did a good job haggling…unless of course she upped what she thought was a good price so she wouldn’t make me feel bad for over paying!
