interesting Brett, once again, I've enjoyed your blog. Have you been to Herrnhut in Moravia? They were a group who had prayer going on 24 hours a day for over 100 years. I'd like to go there. All the places you are visiting sound magical.
a beautiful tradtion I'm glad to see an entry about this special day. It is one of the things we miss the most about living in Poland. Even the trams changed the city routes to accomodate everyone that wanted to visit the cemeteries. Every grave had little lanterns on them, even the old forgotten ones, thanks to the churches. I watched during the days leading up to November 1st, to see the graves washed down and the leaves and debris swept away, before the flowers and candles were arranged. Thoughout the city, all statues and memorials have the laterns and flowers. And the crowds in the cemetries! We were entranced as we joined the stream of families visiting their loved ones. It is a beautiful alternative to our "October 31st". Thanks Brett for the photos!
Very interesting Brett, thanks for the information you sent. It was quite interesting. The pictures were great. And - a couple of them definitely looked like flying over a city. I had to tell myself that wasn't what I was seeing.
WOW This would be an awesome experience. I am one who does not necessarily understand why we celebrate Halloween by dressing up as different characters, whether they are fictional or real. Reading about this tradition makes me wish the United States would have celebrated the holiday this way! Can't wait to see you guys!!
Hey Brett and Sylvi! Thank you for sharing your blog with everyone so that we can live vicariously through you and your travels. I really enjoy hearing about and seeing your travels! Keep up the good work!
Wow! Thanks for the Egyptian report. Great pictures. I'm glad the police only wanted a little cash, and not your skin. It's too bad that you two lead such boring lives. . . Blessings to you both today.
homesick for Poland Brett, I just discovered your and Sylvia's blog and look forward to reading about your European experiences. My husband and I have been back in the states 5 months now and are beginning to long for Krakow. His work took him there, and we lived there almost two years. I have rated some of your photographs, you have some good shots. Take many more pictueres than you think you should, we keep our photos from Europe revolving on our screen saver and they are more interesting as time goes by!
Nebraska Brett, Send me a address. Looks like you need some Nebraska shirts. I didn't know Nebraska Started with a "K". I wonder if that horse and buggy quailifies for the cash for clunker program we have here at home. Keep up the writing and pictures. It's the only way I'll get to see it. Bye, Ted O.
Christmas Decorations in Harvard Harvard does not leave it's Christmas decorations up all year, Brett. The mayor's Christmas tree may lay in the back yard for a long time, but Harvard Christmas lights are down!
You are lucky! Brett
I haved worked with your Dad for may years and have always enjoyed listening to him about your travels. I have been to the Czech Repubic, Germany, England, France and Italy and wish I could go back. My daughter's husband is in the Air Force and was stationed in Germany and England. She is the reason that I was able to travel. I told your Dad, to have you buy your Mom a piece of Polish Pottery. I am hook on it. Congratulations on your wedding engagement and wish you two the best.

PS I am Czech, so I really understand how exciting it is to travel over there.
You went to germany! I hope you are having a great time. It looks like you are. I was also in Cologne when I went last summer but not for very long. IF you went to the Netherlands from Cologne you probably went right by Miriam's house in Munster. ( : I also saw that you wrote on Anita's wall saying that you will be back to Europe twice in the next year. IF so, you should come visit me in Berlin, because I just found out that I was accepted to study there next year from January-July.Well, hope all is well

We loved Torun too My husband + I just returned from our European Road Trip having moved to the Czech Republic from the USA in 2007.
We did Poland and Torun. It is a fantastic city, I agree. From the castle ruins to the river at sunset, the gingerbread and the churches with glitted gold to overlooking the city from the clock tower. There are bits and pieces that are still to be discovered there, and we spend 2 days finding so many things that are not described in a book. Only problem besides too many tourist kiosks are the roads ... Cheers !!!
What did you think of Wroclaw?? it was my favorite place out of the handful i visited in Polska!!! isn't the Old Town marvelous?! and South Asians in Poland, NEATO!!!! golly what an amazing roadtrip!!!!
ps. sylvia= sexy ass bait
AMAZING BRETT the photos are beautiful and your experience at the school was incredibly interesting to read. the children in the photos remind me so much of the kids i worked with in Georgia, especially the part about how they all went positively nuts when you busted out a camera. reading this entry brings a really humanizing perspective on the Roma population and surely this day went above and beyond anything you'd find through pedantic means.
... and geezus, the part about the kid eating banana peels?? are there any relief programs within Europe that support starving "gypsy" children and families who actually value education? probably worth investigating, golly, what a remarkable day this must've been.
