Welcome Home Hey Becca,
Finally... closure! What an amazing experience!! It's so sad to see it over, but just incredible that it was done. I can't wait to remember this trip in 5, 10 and 25 years and look back to your blog for some vivid memories. Keep on rockin' the Hindi!!
A.
well, i suppose you can dis PTs for now, since i don't have my degree yet...but in 2.5 years you better be prepared for an ass whoppin' :) so anyway, CONGRATS on being 2ND IN THE CLASS - i had no idea my cousin was such a smarty pants...apparently genius-like qualities run in the family. im sooo proud of you and happy for ya! see you soon-ish i hope, i wanna hear some stories.
Calming thoughts Becca, you should be very proud of all that you have accomplished in this journey. I know that everyone in our household is extremely proud of you and the dedication that you have shown, we are also very jealous! It is said the hardest part of any path that you under take is the first step, you are well past that. You have made friends, changed lives and enriched those that you have touched while on this trip. I look forward to pictures and stories when you come back, soon it will be spring and then summer here at home, and you can share with us while at the summer home on the lake. You will be able to sit around a soothing fire, gazing at the stars above, listening to the loons and have our complete attention. We miss you and love you, see you soon, Jim
Last days in Bombay... How do you feel about the end of your Bombay days?
I think the city has taught you alot - about yourself ,India, prejudice, poverty, joy and funky food!
Glad the exam is behind you and the remainder of your India time will be an adventure.
Can't wait to see you! love,M
Reality It has been proven - the Hokey Pokey IS what it's all about!
I love your attitude. You may have told a few people on your blog about kids like yours. They have special needs but at the heart of the matter, they are kids.
We Shall Overcome- today is Martin Luther King Day. How many millions of people have taken that song to their hearts.
You are a treasure and I miss you.
still laughing from the cricket ball story Hi Becca! I just want to say thanks for making my co-workers think I am completely insane. It was fine to laugh hysterically at the computer when I was at Child's Play working in Meghan's office (with only Mooey as company) but not here at the library!! I'm afraid that the picture of you getting hit in the head (obviously you weren't seriously hurt or you would not have been able to write the blog...) HAD to be read out loud to everyone present in my office who all agree that it is a very entertaining story! (Although everyone is very glad that you're ok!)
As for the laughter from the mean Indian men playing Cricket- you get the last laugh because you were not playing a ridiculous, never-ending game that nobody really knows the rules of. Just a suggestion- if you decide to ever use this argument with a cricket player (or a cricket team) make sure you get a running start because those sticks they use look pretty hard...
Enjoy your last weeks and I look forward to catching up with you when your back in town!
it just makes so much sense that you are part of all of this. because that's how i always pictured you approaching your work. well, not as work at all. these kids are so lucky to have that kind of support ... and i know you're going to take away everything that is amazing and fun and good from all of your experiences there. well, that just goes to show you how lucky the kids are back here! just wait til you get your hands on them again ;)
so great to hear that you are loving it ... so incredibly what you deserve, m'dear :) much love - beddy
Learn from the Kids Becca, I have been enjoying reading your adventures and this time I must write to let you know how true what you say is. John has worked with challenged children for over 13 years now in a sports league just for them. Their courage, energy and happiness is envious. They are not to be pitied but admired and those who help them in live their lives are to be admired too!
holy shit how do you hold a mooooonbeam....in your....hand!
holy moly bec, i'm just catching up on your blogs (clearly ive been grossly behind, and i mean that literally as well)... and you are living in a convent... so far. cant wait to keep reading!
i miss you like crazy. i really do. i started writing a comment in my head in bed but then i decided it sounded WAY too sad and so i tossed it and fell asleep. xoxox am on to the next!
first of all you should know that i am insanely jealous of you right now. you're doing stuff i hope/dream to some day in a far away place and i'm pretty much green with envy.
and no dissing PTs either! haha...maybe us cousins can bridge the gap between the two fields some day, eh?
love ya!
Becca Beaned in Bombay Sorry, Becs, but I think your community of readers chuckled uproariously reading about this one. Glad you could write about it. It helps the healing process. Love, Dad
promise I didn't laugh Is it wrong that I now want to find those mean laughing men and throw a ball at their head? Glad you met friends after ur yucky experience. You are correct, Aunt Jamima is always right! How does she do that?
Damon the Devil! Mom is gratified that recognition of her infallibility is now common knowledge-at least by the youngest!
You are also on target about the gift of having found a "calling"- your profession fits you to a "T".
Sending love and hugs, and ear munchies from Rudy.
just saying HI This travel blog is cool, For a an old guy, want to keep in touch with you, keep writing and sending pic's. Not very good at typing, (got to keep looking at keys---pain in butt. Miss you, by the way you look awesome in new pic's. Be carefull, of course have only been in Canada, for our 25th wedding celebration, otherwise last time out of New England was in 1979, I praise you for all you do for others, miss you too., all my love, Jim
rebel when are you comin' home?? Rusted Root is playing at MAgic City and I need a friend with good percussive rythm to go with me (my kids said they'd go- but I don't want them to know how much fun I am !)
Miss you
-Lisa
conscious competence becss my dear
one of my co-teachers told me about the square she learned about in the peace corps (like the one about dominant genes)
competent incompetent
unconscious 2 1
conscious 3 4
that's the order that you go through; first, unconsciously breaking rules; then consciously, TRYING not to, but doing it anyway; then doing the right things, because you are being SO AWARE of it all; and eventually (maybe) following along unconsciously.
what do you think?
Stay Healthy! Becca- SOOO Happy to hear that you are feeling healthy.....! Love that you are now corrupting internationally~~~My favorite thing is to copy signatures-- Also, love when you say novella (still).
Definately thinking of you- can't wait til your back!!
2007 Yeah Becca- You're goin have to teach me the way of saying "What, are you crazy?," maybe the youth of America will understand the Hindu way.... do you do that w/ the head bobble? Glad to hear your New Year was a horse of a different color, and maybe it isn't sooo much different and there are some commonalities btwn. worlds. HOw cool is that and you are first hand experience to live and tell. Also glad to hear u gettin the low down w/ a new roommie. I have to say I was very envious when I saw those footprints leading to the ocean...does it taste, feel and move different? I'm sorry to hear you got sick, but u know it's a good shock to your immunity and will probably help in the long run. Keep sending letters girlfriend, what a great experience!! Thinking aboot you lots! Stay frosty! Beef
Is that how I spell my name? Auntie Becca- mom said that it was incredible talking with you this morning. You are fabulous! She needed those laughs, so thank you for making her day(grandma's too) Are you impressed with my vocabulary? you should be, can't wait to knock socks off at the reunion! sing loudly at prayer tonight and tell your partner in crime I am glad she is there to get in trouble with you.Do you guys have a secret handshake? love,LuLu
I love your Blogs! I love your blogs, Rebecca, and I think you are one fantastic person. Remember you have only gotten through about 1/4 of your life, so don't burn out too quickly.
Much love,
Neal
"this is getting to be a novella. I have to go study ankles"... ...is now what I say to get out of awkward situations. Also "What are you, crazy?!" You are going to speak Hindi for me one day. This is just how it is.
feverish Becca, your feverish musings are captivating. You must be feeling better. Its so amazing to realize that there is such a hugely different world out there that hasn't changed that much despite British colonization. How long will it last? Somehow it hits closer to home coming from you than your average travel report. Thanks. Dad
Happy New Year Spent some time with your family on the 30th, very nice, Grandpa seems to be doing okay. Have a happy new new year, keep up the goos work, Rudy is doing fine too, very much a lap dog, nice pic's keep them coming. Miss you
