Thanks you two! Hi, Carol and Bill! Wonderful to receive your more recent report- the color and texture just jumps off the page! I wish I could hear the morning drumming- just once though. :-) I'm delightful that you're being fully enveloped by the people you're connecting with there- outstanding and not surprising! I hope this fall cools down for you a bit!
Happy for you! Hey Mom and Bill -
I'm so glad to hear that you are really developing friendships with your neighbors and teacher in Turkey. Your stories of daily life continue to excite me, and Lisa and I are in the midst of figuring out a trip to visit in the near future.
Love you!
-Kate
Are you embarked on an orthopedic adventure The refrigerator picture appears to suggest that Bill is wearing an orthopedic boot on one foot and ankle. Is there a problem?
HI!!!! I love reading your blog and seeing your pictures! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your adventures. I'm glad you're feeling rahatiik! and I hope the weather starts cooling down soon. It's just starting to feel like spring in Buenos Aires - temperatures of 23-25. It's great! Big hug and kiss!!! Catherine
Thanks so much for including me in your distribution list. Hope you're thinking about a book when you return (or at least a talk at Wide World Books). You do a great job of capturing the flavor of your life there -- plus I love the pictures. I'm vicariously enjoying your trip, and scheming about when I might travel to Turkey (hopefully while you're still there!). All I can say is that it won't be in the summer!
p.s. I don't think we could get much sympathy from you if I told you that we've only had about 10 good days (entire days, not just a few hours) this summer, and about 6 of them were over 95. Seemed pretty hot to us!
Thanks for the news! Dear Carol and Bill,
It is a delight to hear from you and see the pictures. We are so glad you are traveling around and enjoying the people, places and coping with the inconveniences. Keep on writing and traveling. Best wishes, Elsie and John
beautiful pictures! Thanks for posting! I admire your ability to find rahat in such heat and so far from home. What a fascinating adventure you are having!
Month 3 Hi Carol and Bill,
Such great pictutres of the places that you are visiting and where you are living. I know that Karen V G is off to see you on Tues. I will be so anxious to hear everything she has to tell and all the pictures she takes when she returns! Your Ramazan experience reminds me of something I read about Malyasia and evening dinners during Ramadan. Apparently, they were quite fantastic and non-Muslims were very happy to be invited! In Tanzania, I experienced the end of Ramadan and that was quite something. You'll see when it happens in your town!
I'm off to Michigan in a few days. Karen and I have almost the same travel schedule. It it is certainly not as hot as it is where you are, but it has been a nice summer in Seattle.
Love, Denise
You have a gift for writing - it is a pleasure to read your tale of adventure and it sounds like there are many more good times and experiences than frustrating challenges. Though I can believe Bill relishes a good bureaucratic challenge from time to time. What ambassadors you both are for all of us here in the States. good luck during the elections - sounds like they will be a fiery as ours!
Wow! Thanks so much for sharing your fabulous journey with me. I read every bit, and your pictures are just wonderful. Here at the church business is concerned with getting acquainted with the new minister; I find her quite impressive, and very clear about her goals for the year. When I hear about your weather, I give thanks for ours--which has been cool lately, sweaters in the morning! What a contrast. I start my own journey next Tuesday; three weeks in England with my family, a good deal of it walking the Thames Path, and seeing the sights along the way. Three of my fellow travelers have never been to
England, and it will be fun to be tour guides. Keep the blogs coming; I really enjoy them, vicarious pleasure. You both write so well. Cheers, Molly Holmes
Your view of Turkey Your view of Turkey even gives me a new dimension. I have seen these spots but your photos and comments give me a new dimension. I wish I had done this when I came. I have written down some stories but not as cleverly as you have done.
I love your blog Thanks for all your wonderful news and pictures. As you know Carol I'm a late and slow arriver to electronic communication, but I'm changing. I think your temporary move to Turkey is so cool. We are all well. I found the picture of Kate taken in NM when she was about three and I have it in a special plac(on my desk) where I won't lose it again. I'll send it to Kate or you when you want. Rob has survived the bladder cancer and is doing great after two years. Rob (Taylor) and his family are doing really well in Ruidoso, where we spend lots of time. I'm still doing part time work at the Mescalero Apache School during the school year. About 4 days a month. Life is great. Much love.
Pressure Relieved Phil:
The only pressure I feel is when I don't hear from folks, so thanks.........and how about not being a "would be" traveler and come to see us! You would be right at home. The weather is very much like Tampa Bay.....and the Football stadium (Futbol Stadiyum)is right behind our Flat. Come feel how much saltier the Mediterranean is than the Gulf
Hello again! Tom and I still following along, as is Alison. I have to say how organized you are to take your marriage license with you. I guess they thought you liked each other so much you were suspect. :) Love the photos but none of you this time Cousin Carol so that was disappointing.
Keep the info rolling in. Hi, I just scrolled down far enough to figure out that I can comment.
Sounds like you are having a really interesting trip. Maggie and I might visit next year if you are still there.
Love your entries-
Take care,
Judith
Loved the "simit man" Karol and Bil,
We love reading your blog and seeing the pictures of your flat and of your activities. Sounds like you're settling in to life in Antalya quite well. I especially like the story and the picture of the "simit man". We just got home from our reunion trip, so that's why we're late reading the latest.
Love,
Dick
Thanks for sharing Loving the pictures and the descriptions - the best part of actually moving elsewhere is how you are forced to and hopefully delight in shifting both your actions and your thinking. It all sounds lovely and yet I'm sure is sometimes exhausting. Hope you continue to find the balance in swimming in the Med and standing in long lines :)
eating in turkey I love to hear about your meals and shopping for food. My favorite kind of food...I just got back from our family vacation to the South and Buffalo with some kind of intestinal bug and since I can't eat much I am living vicariously through your meal descriptions! Keep it coming....Laurie (Elder)
Month # 2 I'm enjoying the blog, and the pictures are very nice. Glad to hear that you are enjoying yourselves, and good luck with the Turkish. Happy anniversary! We just had our 43rd.
You are so brave! Your progress is amazing! Although knowing you both I am not surprised! We really like hearing about your adventures and everyday life.
Vicarious living! Thanks for your wondrous descriptions and your fine examples of trying so many things! It really is providing a sense of vicarious living for those of us in another world!
Fast Response Carol and Bill-Well that was fast! Only days after I requested more pictures, here they are! I love seeing all the local color-fabulous pictures. I can just see Bill dancing and swimming with complete abandon! Taulby took me for dinner on a yacht in Paris for our 10th anniversary-it was very special as I am sure your's was. Happy Anniversary! Thank you for sharing. Love, T
Apple Tea in our future Hello Ann:
Thanks for the tip about Apple Tea. We just came back from Elmeli, (which means apple town)where they grow many of the apples for Turkey but we didn't hear about apple tea. We will look for it!
The local PTT is more of a location to pay your utility bill (like the tram stop)and receive your government pension payment. Mailing a letter is definitely a secondary activity. However, we just did get our Washington State Primary ballot to be mailed back by August 18. All elections in Washington State are by mail so we fit right it!
Carol and I have moved to Antalya, Turkey where we will be living for two years. We wanted to live in another culture, learn Turkish, possibly teach some English and enjoy a beautiful place and friendly and welcoming people. We would like to experience Turkey as people who live here rather than as tourists, passing through.... full info
