Climbing Kinabalu Hi
I really enjoyed reading your account of climbing Kinabalu. My husband and I are heading over to Borneo in a month's time and are booked in to Laban Rata for a night around the middle of April. I was just wondering whether you had any tips to pass on. We are debating whether to do the climb in walking boots (solid and comfortable with ankle support - good for descent) or more lightweight trainer type shoes. the former obviously will have less grip on the granite but I don;t know how important it is to have waterproof footwear. We are reasonably experienced walkers and have done a bit of rock climbing too - Kinabalu seems an ideal mix of the two !
Any suggestions you have would be appreciated. Especially how cold it was at the top and how much water you carried with you. Did you need gloves, hat etc.
My email address is d-k.bruton@ntlworld.com and I look forward to hearing from you when you have a minute.

explore you guys definitely have to check out Bolivia. I just returned from a tour all around Bolivia and it was something I never experienced before, even while travelling to other parts of South America. Since you're going to Brazil, maybe you guys could swing by on Bolivia's Eastern region (Santa Cruz)...
chicha traditionally, chilean chicha is made from either fermented grapes or apples. in the andean highlands it is made from corn. san pedro is a bit between these two worlds and is very different from the rest of chile so you may very well have had the maize kind, though i've never had it anywhere in chile (and i'm from there). sorry to hear about your camera. good luck on the rest of your trip. i've enjoyed 'travelling' with you.
bummer such a shame about your camera. I just left the americas, after spending 6 paranoid weeks there, my eyes never left my stuff. Most stress i've had in 2 years! See you both soon, xx

Hey Becky, it sounds like you guys are having an awesome time! I'm so happy you did the sky dive, I'm going to follow in your footsteps soon. Work's not the same without you, too quiet, and even Elvis's mum has been subdued since you left. Keep having fun, hopefully can catch up before you leave! Travel safe

hello nice one guys! Congrats on both being AOW divers! How are the legs, hope you made it up the mountain ok. I arrived in bangkok during new year celebrations, which is basically a water and talc fight for 3 days. Due to pain in legs was unable to move quickly, and was therefore drenched and soaked everytime I left hotel. Now in Cambodia, and loving it. Looking forward to reading your next installment, lol, saran xx - saran
Why do you guys all live in the horrible Sudder Street area in Kolkata? It's like living in one of the worst parts of the city and then cringing - oh how awful the place is. Must be a Lonely Planet thing. - Kolkata Basi
Chinese Border Really enjoying your travels and travails. Great photos!!! Would love to know how easy it is to pass into China - did you have prearranged visas etc. - Kiwigold
Lazy Goa Hello Bex and Rich,
I just returned from the lazy Goa. I am smitten by her beauty and serenity. Goa has just about everything.
I went Bird watching one day, the next for crocodile spotting, Scuba diving for a day - not so good due to murky waters, enjoyed the sumptuous sunsets - a sight to behold for life. On the way back from the jungle Dursager water falls spotted two king cobras matting dance.
It was a great trip. I want to go back as soon as I could, again. Just to lazy arround.
regards,
ken.
Thank You I am yearning to follow in your footsteps by ditching my "good paying job" and travelling the world. Thank you so much for your humorous and descriptive tales. I read these BLOGS to help prepare myself for my journey. It is inpsiring to read about someone else taking the leap. The one piece of info that I have failed to grasp is all of the real details like how much to budget, what guide books to use, how to manage the language barrier...not movie material, but facts that would help. Perhaps it is necessary to just learn as I go. Thanks again for your journals; you are a lucky couple to be sharing such an amazing journey together.

Well, we are finally going. It may have taken three years to pluck up the courage, but we have finally chucked in our jobs, packed up our worldly goods and tried to fit our lives in two 60 litre packs! In just a few weeks we will be flying out to Calcutta to start a year long trip (or however long the money lasts) covering India, Nepal, South east Asia, Australasia, French polynesia and South America. This Journal is primarily for friends and family to follow our travels but we hope everyone who reads it enjoys the ride! ... full info
