Europe » Italy » Liguria » Cinque Terre May 26th 2007

We took a walk today between three of the Cinque Terre towns along the coast. It was an amazing view, and not really a bad hike. There were people who had rented boats that were down below in the coves, which looked like so much fun (I have to come back for that)! The waves were gorgeous crashing on the rock walls. We also walked down the famous trail of love where all these couples carved their names. It was a great view of the ocean with some great flowers and plants. The mountains had vineyards all along the sides with little great looking huts. We had an interesting experience with lunch when we though we order shrimp and ended up getting these crazy crustaceans that we had to break apart ourselves! It was definitely a ... read more

If you can only go one place in Italy, I would go to Cinque Terre. It is beautiful!! I want to live here someday!! It is 5 towns on the Italian border with the most amazing beaches. The mountains on one side slope down into the beach that consists of not sand but pebbles. The water is so clear that even I would go swimming in it haha! We got there just in time for dinner on the beach at a small restaurant before going to our campground. Yes, I went camping believe it or not! We had a small tent with two beds that actually had a floor and all. It wasn't that bad except for the fact that we woke up to rain the next morning, which was not fun.... read more

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice May 24th 2007

It is soooo hot in Venice that sleeping is almost impossible because our place (as with most) does not have AC! So we got up and out and went to St. Mark's. It was one of the oldest churches we've been in, with little restoration (the floor was literally sinking in). It was cool to see though because it had a very authentic feeling. It was almost completely gold with bible figures in the mosaic. Then we spent the rest of the day shopping around the very cute shops and adventuring down the streets. They have some really pretty blow glass that I really want to bring home, but have NO room. We had pizza for dinner and afterward got some really wonderful little chocolate shortbread cookies.... read more

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice May 23rd 2007

We arrived in Venice a little confused because we had to figure out the water transportation system. We took a train to the island and then a ferry boat to down the canal to our guest house. It was such a cool ride, the scenery was just like you'd see in a movie. The one thing about Venice is that the streets are crazy. They go every direction with no logic and then you could just end up at a dead end. So we got a really good map, and set out to find the dinner. On our walk we actually found the Rialto Bridge and looked around there for a while. Then we had our first official Italian Pasta of the trip, which was amazing! For dessert we decided it was time to get gelato! ... read more

Today was the BEST DAY EVER!! We decided that we were too tired to run around from site to site, so we took my dad's amazing advice to go to Berchtesgaden. It was about a 45 minute bus ride into the town, and then we took another bus to Konigssee where the great King's Lake is. We decided to take a boad ride down the lake to St. Bartholoma's chapel, and WOW it was amazing! The view of the snow-capped Alps from the crystal clear lake was incredible!! The weather was even beautiful for us all day long, with a nice breeze on the lake. It was such a nice relaxing day. I wish we had time to go back.... read more

Europe » Austria » Salzburg » Salzburg May 21st 2007

This morning we took a beautiful train ride into Salzburg to start a crazy day of site seeing. We quickly found out that it is possible to do many things all in one day because they are all situated within a small area. I think we may have gone a little crazy on the site seeing though, because we were dead tired at the end of the day and we didn't want to hear another guided tour haha. First we bought a Salzburg day pass that was well worth the money because it got you onto all the buses and into all the popular attractions free of charge. We started out at the Mirabell Gardens, my favorite place of the day! The elaborate designs of the flowers were really cool to walk through and there were ... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Fussen May 20th 2007

We took a two hour train from Munich to Fussen to see Neuschwanstein (the Cinderella castle) and Hohenschwangau. It was a really gorgeous train ride into the country. We got to see a wonderful view of the Alps and German towns. We took a tour of Hohenschwangau first, the smaller of the two castles. We had a really funny man as our tour guide, so it was a good experience. Then we went to Neuschwanstein, and the views were stunning! From outside the window you could see the most beautiful lake and mountain range. It was amazing! The decorations definitely looked like Disney World. It wasn't like the castles in London or Paris at all, it was much more fairy tale like. The walls had paintings of different opera stories and tales of the times. We ... read more

Wow so much has happened since I have had internet, so here's a summary... Day 7: We started out that morning going to Notre Dame. It was a long wait to get it to climb the 422 stairs to the top, but it was totally worth the wait! We got to walk right up next to the Gargoyles and see a perfect view of the island the church is on below. From there we went to the Pantheon and took a look around, but decided not to pay to go inside. Instead we decided to go check out the movie theater on the Champs Elysee. The thing playing at the time was Spiderman 3. We thought it'd be interesting even if it was in French, but it turned out to be completely in English. So that ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris May 16th 2007

Today was Louvre day!! We spent hours there just walking around looking at all the stuff. I didn't realize just how confusing the whole place is because it's sooo big! We got lost just trying to find the cafe for lunch and ended up walking around the entire place (not a short walk). We saw the Mona Lisa though, which was nice but not as big as I thought. My favorites were the French and Italian paintings. It's just the most massive collection of art ever, and now I know why people who want to look at ever picture have to go back multiple times. We did some window shopping after the Louvre, and then decided we're so tired that we're going to find something to eat.... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris May 15th 2007

Today we woke up and went to the Musee D'Orsey. The building was spectacular in itself, the architecture was incredible. We got to see my favorite artists- Degas and Monet. I got pictures by the ballerinas!! From there we took a trip to Versailles. We walked around the gardens for a couple hours, and they were amazing! They look big, but then once you really get into them you find out that they are huge!! We were worried we'd get lost in the maze and not be able to find the exit haha. They didn't have the fountains on when we got there, but then they turned them on at the end before it started raining and it was beautiful. We decided to go inside and take a tour of the palace. Wow it was amazing ... read more
