I have been in Shanghai for a month, and decided to start an online journal. My apartment is now starting to feel more like home. I live about fifteen minutes from the city (by car), but there is a market that is about a ten minute walk from my house. I have an ayie (cleaning lady also means auntie). She speaks about as much English as I speak Chinese. When she was over the other day we both had our language dictionaries out trying to talk to each other. She took me to the market and then made me a five course Chinese dinner (chicken, fish, vegetables, soup, and rice).
