speakingof postcards wren, what is the address for the spanish teacher Stuart is supposed to send postcards to? I had a fun day yesterday going to Berkely Springs for Jim and Cathy's wedding, then to stay over at Leslie's...nice to be back in our honeymoon place....love to all, k
Cooking and Ralph Girls, I am glad Ralph is doing most of the cooking - he is good at it. In Liberia most boys and men learn to cook and many professional cooks are men. When in Ghana I cook mostly but I beg Ralph to cook once a week to give me a break. He is very handy in the kitchen though and never complains. I hope he is frying lots of plantain for you and making our favorite fried chicken! Chicken is eaten a lot in Liberia and food is very different there than in Ghana...and banku is a ghana food! I don't think Ralph can get use to it although I love it. I hope you have had fufu too! It is my fav...One of my sons in Liberia is an amazing cook but he thinks it is women's work, but I have often dreamed of opening up a bakery with him. He learned to bake from a German couple when we lived in Cape and is very good at it too. Some people are just naturals at cooking and baking. I hope you taught him a few dishes so he can practice them on me when I go home!
Ralph Girls - you make me miss Ralph all the more!!! I am laughing and that feels good! Thank you so much for brightening his lonely days as he studies in Kumasi. One day when I called him from Liberia he said, "I am more lonely than Tom Hanks in Castaway." Of course, being an actor, he used that reference, but I knew what he meant. I have never lived alone in Africa and I imagine it is horrible for him, but what to do? I need more people to go to the house! I am happy he is giving so many good stories....I hope to make a drama from them one day but he is not so interested!
Very Brave I love the photo of Wren and Rachel enjoying coffee. Is it good coffee? May we see photos of Anna and Ralph also? My life feels very boring now, I must also have an adventure soon. You have inspired me!
great to hear from you hello all! thanks for the great stories and descriptions..we didn't have your blog entries from the 7th until today so its comforting to hear from you...ask Anna to write too!! would be nice to get her perspectives..your dad/grandfather turned 85 yesterday! all is well here..the ceiling in the treatment room is almost finished..its beautiful! off to a wedding and visit with Leslie and John in Berkley springs in a little while....
We finally reached a place where we could pull up your blog. What an interesting trip you're having...and we thought being in Alaska was exciting. I like the names of the businesses, too, so here's my wish to you. God watch over you.
Margins Wren--I love your accounts of Ghana. Keep it going. We wait with baited breath for the next installment. A mild suggestion--If you can make your margins slightly wider, I could read it without having to move the curser back and forth with eachline. I don't know how to contract your blog, and maybre you don't either. jWe love you and are glad you are having such an interesting time. lBobby
Hey guys Wren- your stories are delightful--vivid and entertaining-- I, too love the notion of "My God key service" BBC news here is talking up Obama's visit. Can't wait to hear if yuo all get to see him. Sounds like the adventures just keep on coming. As laways, I am envious of your experiences. Continue to enjoy and love to all of you.

sounds awesome and delicious! Mangos and the scenery/culture!
I am regrouping for Liberia so you can use all your Africa experience again.
Can't wait to hear first hand...safe travels, Linda
Listen to Grandma! Anna, this is to you. How about getting out pencil and paper and sketching some of those African women carrying things on their heads? YOU CAN DO IT. Hang in there.
Wren, we can hardly wait for the next installment. When Obama arrives in town we will watch CNN to spot 4 pale faces among all those beautiful African faces.
Grandpa's birthday is tomorrow (Thursday). Please, sing Happy Birthday to him in Africa. He would be honored. He will be 85.
Drink lots of water.
Grandma
Thanks! Oh, it sounds soooo wonderful. But now I want to hear more about Kumasi -- you skipped that part... Also, Anna you should send a postcard to your Orthodontist: Berkinshaw Orthodontics, 129 Old Solomons Island Road, Annapolis, MD 21401 to try to win the postacrd contest....And you should go see Obama, not to see him, but to see the people-scene where he speaks...So cool. We miss you all back here. The strawbale crew have been asking about you, Wren. We are pretty much done with bale assembly. Cobbing starts tomorrow. Plastering this weekend. Sonya and Zoe want to come the 18th...
Love you all.
5 hr bus ride hello dear family! thanks for the great descriptions Wren! can't wait to see the pictures.....5 hr bus rides seem like the going thing these days...as you remember the 5 hr bus ride to Huatusco....very uneventful compare to yours though!!...can relate to the mangos..I've never tasted something so wonderful as the ones we had in Mexico....was so fun to see where you all had been...got lots of pictures there.....tomorrow John/Adrienne/Odelia leave for Costa Rica and a 5 hr bus ride from Vera Cruz to Monteverda...that will be my next trip!! love and hugs, kappy
car parts Hey , maybe you could bring some car parts home and we can install them on the truck. Anything will do. Also bring back some bags of smells or smelly things. This a cool blog! You must be spies, you are going everywhere.
Don't worry so much!! Oh Mom! If you had met George, you would know he was trustworthy. He was the one who made us leave early and was very very careful and protective of us. Don't worry! We love you. Have fun back home!
adventure Hey Wren and Anna...It looks like you all are having a great adventure. We enjoy and look forward to your blogs. If you run across a hand made basket could you pick one up for you Aunt Ferae. She has a collection of baskets from all over the world. She cant get them herself do to the fact that planes and boats are out and there is no interstate to Africa. I will cover it when you get back and come on down on the first. She even has a Chinese basket from Aruba.
Have fun
Ken

it was great week in Mexico....so glad I got to where you all were before, love, kappy
More, more! Hi Guys
Please give us another little bit after that cliff hanger... We miss you! Can't wait to read as much as you are willing to write. What's it smell, sound, look like all around you? What did people in the night clubs think of a bunch of blond/redheaded girls coming in? And what was your father doing sending you off with a guy he'd just met a day and a half before? Be safe and have a great time...I love you. Mama.
so happy to hear Wow! sounds fabulous. I must admit, a little part of me wishes I was there with you all. Sounds like a lot of fun and many great experiences! Jimmy would definitely love this trip. Thanks for the posts; keep them coming. much love, linda
yayyyyyy! Wow you guys have done an awful lot in a short time. Sounds like you hit the ground running. Things are good here, good weather, getting work done. Rob Roy was over today getting the new table saw running. I dims the lights in the whole neighborhood. Keep the posts coming!
Happy 4th! our fam is celebrating the 4th in Berkeley, Laurel, and College Park - I hope you wore your red white an blue today - sounds like our summer weather is over in Kumasi - still having Spring temperatures in MD. Love your blog - keep it up!
Good Luck I know I forgot many things to tell you, but I trust you will find your way quite well and Ralph and other friends will make you very happy and learn all about wonderful African hospitality...please hug everyone for me and tell them I love and miss them. ENJOY Ghana - it is a wonderful country with friendly people! I know it will be a very memorable trip. Wish you were going for a longer time but I hope we all can plan something for the future that will be longer and involve some hard labor!! hahahahah. Or creative work!
