Hey from Erika, your friend from the Aran Islands! It was so interesting to read about your time in Beijing because I just found out that I got accepted to study abroad there next semester!! I hope your trip is going great! Never stop traveling =)
That Lone Tree Pic That is some amazing photography. And all with that camera? Really awesome all the things you guys are doing. Including that grasshopper pic that I wish I hadn't seen. aaahhh!!!
P.S. P.S. Will you still be travelling over the holidays? A handful of us are headed to Taiwan and Tokyo for Jeremy and Angelica's wedding between Christmas and New Year's. If you're in the area... ;-)
Excellent journal! I think this is my favorite post so far. Sorry you faced difficulties on this leg of the trip but it sounds like an awesome experience nonetheless. Cheers!

WOW again What an experience! I even have Charlie reading your blogs. We are back from our adventure in Greece and it had some very wild and scary moments. We ran into "near gale" winds on our first day's sail and then again on Friday of our first week. Both times our fleet was forced to abandon the itinerary and stay put. We were stuck for Ios for 4 days - and got to know it well, did laundry, etc. Even the ferries weren't running. But then Ios is a sought-after destination for many, so it had some plusses. We enjoyed the sight-seeing in Athens, seeing the various islands and harbors, and being a part of the sailing community (charterers like us from all over Europe, real salts who are living on their boats for an extended period). Enjoy the beaches!
Amazing! What a wonderful adventure! I thought we were tough when we hiked up 2500 feet in Banff. Makes me wonder if I could do it - even with a porter.
Sounds wonderful! Hi you 2 -
I havn't looked you up in a while and the 2 Blogs from China are amazing - and great pictures. I don't know how you'll stand the hum-drum of real life again. We're off on our own little adventure this week - our 2-week sailing cruise in the Greek islands, with a few days in Athens beginning and end. The other end of the earth from you. Hopefully, the winds won't be too brisk and the excitement too great. It should be beautiful. Donna
I wish I were there again. Ashley and Laura, I loved reading about your time in Beijing. It sounds wonderful. It makes me wish I could travel to China again. Maybe sometime .....

Yummy Food How did the grasshoppers taste?! What did your friend say about the starfish? Wasn't it a little hard? The Great Wall looks steep and rugged in places. In Laura's photos that I received by email, it looked as if someone had fallen and skinned their knee - but the extent of the wall is hard to believe. By the way, on the news yesterday, an Olympic official stated that the pollution was a problem.
Jealousy is theme I have to join in the jealous crowd in all the postings. I really want to get to Isle of Skye. You two do lovely photos!!!
Glad you had good ventures in Ireland. Aran Isles are trulya place that shows the work of hundreds of years to move stones about and make soil work. Did you know that those isles did not have the potato blight and took in refugees form the mainland at the time of the famine?
Enjoy the next jaunt. Are ye off now to China?

Coach Carolyn just asked me how you are doing, so I've read your blog and can now report back :) Love the pics, and am thoroughly thrilled that you are having the adventure of a lifetime! Stay safe and have fun!!!
Rockstars! You two rock. Great stories. Keep it up Laura...with the help of your assistant Ash. The bird attacking Ash made me laugh out loud! The story of the torture chambers made me squeal. Horrible. I cant imagine having my fingernails pulled out! Simply just to torture me. My oh my.I cant wait to see some pictures. Stay safe. xox
keep the updates coming We're all living the trip vicariously over here. Keep the updates coming. I went to Ireland when I was around 11 years old. I saw the Cliffs of Moher, but I had forgotten them until I saw your pics. Thanks. I hope things have gone well for you in Scotland given the recent events. It must be a difficult time to travel in Britain. Ashley, I'm sure you are dying to know how things are going at ADSK, let me just say that we changed the name ESD to EF and all is well. SOE was put off to November. I know I know, you don't care anymore. Good luck. Have lots more fun.
Hi I've got a "long" vacation coming up soon (3 weeks). I wish I also could take 9 months off. Have a great time, I will be reading your blog.
Rgds,

Sounds terrific! I can't wait to see your pictures! We are going to the Folklife Festival on the Mall this afternoon and one of the features this year is Northern Ireland so we'll get a little taste. Of course being there is soooo....... much better. Love, Mom
great photos Looking at the photos, I forget about the rain that you mention! Without that wet stuff, this wouldn't be the emerald isle. Other than the last photo, I wish I were there. I'm not sure I could bike DOWN the hill with that pack on my back!
