great info for jungle travel Enjoyed very much your great article - it paints such a picture of the true jungle - and how much it helps the villagers - Gerson and Tío Luis sound knowledable. I will pass on this info the visitors who stay a the grings's house - I am always asked for recommendations. Good job!

I know exactly what u mean when u thought the guy would go all egyptian on u. my gf and i were in egypt before going to Jordan and everyone wanted a tip for every stupid thing! Jordan, the people were so much more accomadating and honest.
yeeha! So glad you got to experience the place properly, we were too busy running to the toilet to see what we wanted to.
Arlene, you are looking fantastic!
X Krista.
incredible! Wow, this looks like the experience of a lifetime. I must show these photos to Rob, he has always wanted to see the Amazon.
The no child sex signs are a bit scary and depressing indeed.
Wow! Wow, wow and wow!
How unbelievably amazing. I'm so chuffed that you've taken this opportunity. I've always wanted to see Macchu Picchu...now I almost feel I have! Wow....oh enjoy. :-)
utterly stunning Your photos are just getting better and better!
Are you guys getting tired yet? You still look full of beans in your photos, good on you!
X Krista.
Lycra Thanks Krista,
Sometimes important to not take personal appearance too seriously - it was funny what we ended up wearing when thinking only of the temperature dropping 1deg per 6 mins...
Hope you guys are well with your big life adventure also!

Migraine cure I found whilst traveling in South America the best all round cure for anything is the good old cocoa leaf, get the leaf raw, rinse with clean water, chew the leaf and then spit out the waste. (You get used to the taste) after a good 6 or so leaves you will have no sickness that worries you. ;)
Oranges Those oranges are nothing to the Grapefruits hanging on the tree at your house!!! They are feeding a small army (being Cherie who is pregnant again!) when we can get out in between the rain (which according to our calculations has been going non-stop since you left).
Cheers
Mike
The Falls look wonderful, Warrick and I are envious, this was where we planned to visit on the way to get married in the UK, but the flights just would not work!!! You guys are sure having a great time. Take care, love Kaz
hola! Hey Arlene, stalker of cafes :-) Good to see that hasn´t changed, and that you guys are still having fun!
We´re home in 5 days, from mid-40s heat to what sounds like the nastiest NZ winter in ages, eeek!
Ooops - a couple of Km´s out... Thanks James!
A small correction to my post-dormitory induced sleep deprivation, leading to a slight error. Although it was the kind of stuff up that made Columbus pretty famous.
Happy reading and thanks for your comment!
the pearl of the pacific i've thoroughly enjoyed reading your blogs, and your pictures are among the best i've seen on travelblog. i like your travel style. just a little fyi, it was actually the panama canal and not the suez canal that "cut into" valpo's former glory. you probably already knew that though. enjoy the rest of south america and i'm looking forward to looking over your shoulder all the way. cheers!
Magic Camera? Hi Guys, just had a look through your pics of Santiago - they are great, were we in the same city? All our photos of the capital are grey and grubby...yours definitely bring out the best of the place! We are now in Mendosa scoffing Malbec and steak...mmm. Did a vinyard tour by bike and yesterday went on a horse trek, just the 2 of us with a friendly Gaucho called Enrique and his 3 black labradors who accompanid us the whole way throught the Mendozan outback. Also managed to get our Skiing sorted and survived a great week on the snow in Portillo, with no broken bones...just a dent in the bank account! Happy travels!
Tearing asunder from a pleasant New Zealand urban environment, Benj and Arlene felt like a 'small' getaway, involving a bit of Tahiti (a few days), Easter Island (10 days), South America (6 months) and Mexico (2 months), visiting the Spanish/Iberian connection on route to the UK. Park or ride back to NZ via SE Asia, and work out how to get to Eastern Europe and Turkey in the process.
Starting 20 June 2008, and not quite sure when to finish - probably when gripped either by poverty, or the need for familiarity - it´ll be the poverty.
