The drum roll blares from the plasma screen TV installed above the bar, two men deposit two fighting cocks in the small ring and the birds begin to circle each other. I'm shocked, not only is cock fighting legal over here, but its screened on national television as well. IN the meantime we saw our window on Phi PHi and dove through it, taking a ferry to the mainland town of Krabbi and from there we can travel to Ko Lanta by Bus and causeway, the direct Phi phi ko lanta ferry being out of action due to swells. When we arrive on Krabi we feel guilty over our bellyaching regarding the weather , the floods have really given Krabi a good licking. Most of the shops are closed due to flood damage and and in ... read more

NO PICTURES Putting this up as only text as its way overdue, laptop isn't working due to random windows XP crash due to shitty Microsoft. I'll add pictures later when facilities allow, in the meantime if you see Bill Gates private jet flying overhead try scatter some pigeons at its engines, that should teach the wanker to develop some decent operating software. windowssystem32configsystem Getting this when I start up, repair doesnt work, safe mode doesn't work and my computer doesnt have a windows cd nor a cd drive to run one. Any ideas welcome. In the meantime... I'm getting pissed on in Phi Phi, who would have thought? Seconds after myself and Blondie found a guesthouse the sky went the color of tarmac and forks of lighting began to tickle the rocky green peaks that shoulder ... read more

"There is toilet downstairs...but only for pee pee, not for something stronger, if you do something stronger smell come up to passenger, kill everybody only pee pee understand?" The bus conductor is giving us some precious words of wisdom prior to our overnight departure from Bangkok to the Island of Phi PHi and I hope to got the fellow passengers trust his advice, the bus being as uncomfortable as it is. Phi Phi is an island far to the South, famously known as the spot where they filmed the movie "The Beach" and I can't wait to get there! I'm in mixed spirits leaving the capital, part of me is glad to leave behind the full on assault on the senses that is BANGKOK, while another part of me will miss this city without peer, to ... read more

Note: having laptop trouble and the internet cafes here have no microsoft word and hence no spellcheck, sorry for the inevitable spelling errors! "Welcome Bangkok" says the taxi man when he drops us off at the Ko San Road. To discribe the Ko San Road as a street is wholly inacurate, its a living breathing entity, the best analogy would be to say its kind of like Mos Eisley, the desert town featured in several of of the star wars films. The fact that mos Eisley doesnt exist gives you an an idea of how unreal the place is! I step out of the taxi and the smells hits you, our nostrols are assailed by the combined stench of a score of street food stales selling everything from cheese burgers to fried cockroaches as big as ... read more

Being bored in Auckland is like trying to look cool while using a sedge way, a truly impossible state. Two massive tattooed Maoris’ are walking past me clad in Irish rugby jerseys, laughing and already tucking into a beer at just after noon, by the sound of their laughing, it’s not the first beer they have enjoyed today. Its paddy’s day and the entire of Auckland has caught Irish fever, the sport shops windows are sporting mannequins, normally dressed in All black jerseys next to pictures of Richie Mccraw now sporting Ireland jerseys and mug shots of BOD, nearly every person on the street is wearing something green be it a tie or in many cases a bucket sized leprechaun hat. Its surreal to see so many people so many thousands of miles away celebrating our ... read more

“You guys won’t want to leave once you walk out that door” The Kiwi customs officer says this about his homeland completely matter of fact and deadpan. Mind you from what I’ve heard from buddies who have travelled around NZ before, it’s some spot. The weather is gorgeous, yet they can go skiing after only a short island hop, they invented bungee jumping, they all love Rugby instead of soccer, Jesus was born here…in the church of Wally, Jesus is also known by his human name Peter Jackson and to cap it off 1.5% of the population list their religious beliefs as “Jedi”. Seriously, New Zealand is as awesome as Arnold schwarzenegger and all the legendary Hollywood action heroes taking part in a steer up to steer up cavalry charge…with tyrannosaurus Rexes as steeds. We get ... read more

The singing has started, the sounds of what appears to a Australian Pavarotti is coming from the street outside and its getting louder, there are mere seconds before he gets in the door,. The hostel residents scatter to their rooms and the communal garden is empty, even the Vegetable Reich are keeping a low profile. He…has returned. We have a new tour group staying with us now and it’s brought with it a rather special someone, he’s about 5, 9, mid thirties, Australian and appears to have his eardrums burst because he has the need to talk by shouting at maximum volume at all times. When there is no one around to talk to he has taken to singing opera to himself at all times, Pavarotti seems to be the favourite . While headache inducing, his ... read more

Leaving San Pedro is like walking past Zaytoon Kebab shop at 3Am on Camden Street Dublin, something I really didn't want to do. Unfortunately changing our previously arranged bus tickets in exchange for another afternoon of sand boarding was a small fortune and in fairness if a family cat was coughing up as much hairballs as I was hocking up swallowed sand you'd have to put it down. We had two buses to catch, one from San Pedro to Caldera and a HI tech Boula bus from there to Santiago. Caldera being a hub for mining operations in the north of Chile and a stone throw from the famous Chilean mine rescue that happened late last year. The second bus, while we occupied seats that comfortably reclined that were thankfully not located inches from the toilet ... read more

Sand boarding, or falling off a 150 metre sand dune with a piece of fibre glass attached to your feet as I initially knew it, is a sport similar to snowboarding that’s carried out in many of the deserts throughout the world. Its easy to spot sand boarders around the town, take a Arab with big beard and shamag, give him Bermuda shorts , wrap around Oakley’s, hiking boots and a few new age tattoos and you have your typical sand boarder. Sand boarding is popular in Death Valley and we were brought out for one hour instruction followed by two hours of giving it a go ourselves. After hiking to the top of the great dune our instructor showed us how the strap into the board and go which involves bringing your board flat atop ... read more

Waking up at 4 Am isn’t a nice experience, unfortunately the Taito geysers, one of the nearby attractions are most active at sunrise making an easy start unavoidable. Tom and Laura arrived up from Vino del Mar and decided sign up too. Our efforts to sleep have been hampered by our fellow hosteller guest whom we shall call for the purposes of this entry “Jimmy”. Jimmy is on a serious mission to meet and hopefully have carnal with a Chilean female and his days throughout the hostel are devoted to this quest. This evening he was pumped, he had wooed no less then nine allegedly drop dead gorgeous members of Chile’s fairer sex on a romantic tour to the Valle De Luna, AKA moon Valley and had arranged to meet them later that evening for drinks ... read more
