when I say doing the schedules I mean, fitting people into times where they can work, but its tricky b/c there must be an 8 hour rest period in between shifts and they cannot do the same shift 3 days in a row....but with like 23 people its hard
I did not get any pictures of the eggs, sadly. I did not have my camera with me when at those moments. Turtles usually lay anywhere between 90 and 110 eggs.....but they lay the fertile ones first, and then the non fertile ones, which are super tiny!!
dude...i am sooo ready to go back, we should go sometime over the summer....maybe in August when you finally come back from Maine.....I want to go really really bad!!
It was a Golden Orb Spider
I did miss ice coffee actually!! I wouldnt think the meat would be dangerous, but there are other cultures where they do kill the turtle for its oil......I saw a few sand dollars wash up and a brittle star.....no tidal pools
Hey Andy, it was exciting to read about your adventures in Costa Rica. I am glad that you had a great time and really got to make a difference. Lately I have been paying more attention to how people can do "just small things" to create great change in the world. Even if it isn't something so earth shattering as other inventions, you made a world of difference in the lives of many sea turtles and in over 100 little waddling babies that you released.
You have also made lifelong friends and did something totally different, and unique and outside of the status quo for you and I think that this is really awesome when people challenge themselves to go do something completely different then what they are used to.
GOOD JOB Mr. Zsak!
A leatherback nest 2 days in a row...what luck! That is cool that you met a Hungarian that spoke it fluently. I want to hear you speak it fluently. haha...Did you introduce her to the "legendary" Zsak's charm.
OMG how could you live without good coffee...I bet you missed the Blueberry Iced Coffees from Dunks. haha. That is fortunate that you did not witness poachers killing turtles. That is crazy that they can get so much money from poaching a turtle and its eggs. Is there any truth about the leatherbacks meat being dangerous because it eats jellyfish? Also did you see any cool things wash up on shore or did you see any other cool wildlife or tidal pools?
Hey...we should go back to Costa Rica...I would go with you. Also that is really sad about the green turtle getting shot. People are so rude sometimes. The spider...that sucks...what kind of spider was it do you know? Yeah it is always sad to see people come and go, but at least you had the opportunity to get to know them right?
The coral snake rocks. I am glad you did not get bit by it. That is awesome too that you got to use your nest digging training to make a nest. Did you get any pictures of the eggs? 97...that seems like a lot..how many eggs do turtles lay at once usually? I bet the sunrise in Costa Rica is gorgeous?
This is really cool (well the whole hearing the turtle breath thing). Did you get any pictures of her. That is horrible about the poachers. Why do they poach the eggs? What do they use them for?
yeah hammocks are always fun. Red as a lobstah...oh Andy, it would be like you to forget the sunscreen. Did you teach the local boys some Ultimate Frisbee...
