WOW Wow, what a whirlwind your life is!! Good thing you're young, I couldn't handle it all! You look extremely happy which makes me happy. I'm sure your mom will be missing you being away such a long time. Take care and live with compassion...
Whose wedding was that anyway?? Sorry guys, I can't believe that I forgot to tell you whose wedding those pictures are from! Ali, the eldest brother in my new family, got married to a lovely and kind young woman named Samah a couple of weeks ago. Ali lives in Qatar, where he is an architect, and she is an electrical engineer from a smaller town a couple of hours from Cairo. So it was my first Egyptian wedding and it was just fantastic! I will blog more about it next go around, I promise! :)
Beautiful Egyptian Your roommate, Reem, looks like the Egyptian sculptures! Beautiful! Sure doesnt look like she needs to lose any weight, though. Congrats on being so close to your weight goal. I'm sure proud of you. And regarding your new Path, I'm sure that all of your 'real' friends here in America will accept you no matter what. Of course your family does. Love you!
Faith Dear Alida:
How I wish I had known what you were searching for when studying religions at Concordia. I pray you find Faith in your search not religion.
When I was about 10, I became aware of the God that gave me life and the relationship He would like to have with all his creation. I asked Him to become the Lord of my life then and my Faith Walk began. I don’t consider it a “religious structure” -
He has done an excellent job of leading and guiding But I have Not done a good job of listening and waiting waiting for the right answer to my prayer, waiting for the right time fortunately for me, he didn’t abandon me, but walked with me through the trials that followed and we started over, and over
Over the years my Faith has grown stronger and through study on my own and through group study I have learned that He created the sun, moon, stars, night, day, vegetation to eat, and some for beauty trees for shade, and for other uses- creatures that walk on the earth, creatures that fly over the earth, creatures that inhabit the waters and in fact, we are still discovering new species.
All these things come in an amazing variety of colors, shapes, sizes,
The rainbow comes with a promise Genesis 9
The sun stood still at one time as an answer to prayJoshua 10 another time it turned 10 degrees Isaiah 38
He showers the earth with rain, on the just and un-just alike. Matthew
I am told that “when it’s within your power, live in peace with all people”
I am “encouraged” to “Pray without ceasing” Pray for every need helping find a lost earring, button etc pray over the car to keep it running or when taking trips for daily schedules, kids and their school work, kids & their peers, kids the nation, the president & leaders, school principles, church leaders & pastors EveryOne ..
Talk with Him as you do a parent, close peer, or family member -
and remember to give Thanks & Praise for Answers.
Good luck in your search I’ll be praying for you ..
Love Grandma
Might be a world traveler? About the world traveler thing...lets see now. You toured Ireland with the Concordia Concert Choir, and the eastern seaboard of the USA... Mexico for your sister's wedding... a month in Morocco last year. And now Egypt...How many countries does it take to be a world traveler?
We knew it. After I last talked to you, I was telling Terry about the trip, etc and he made the comment that the next thing that you would do is become an Islam or however you would say it. I totally agreed because I felt that was where you were headed. I'm glad that you have found a faith that you can believe in. I know that it is supposed to be a peaceful faith. It is too bad when Muslims or Christians use their faith to start wars and such. We could live in peace and help each other instead of taking advantage of each other. We still love you very much.
On another subject, I dug up my garden and got it ready to plant today. Plants are growing in the flower beds and the daffodils are blooming. It has been beautiful out except that it got down to 20 a couple of nights ago. I hope that it was the end of that. I was out in shorts and a tank top today. Sounds like you are working hard. Keep it up! You are doing good. Love, Grandma
How beautiful! Alida what a beautiful and touching testament! I loved the verses that you chose, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the recitation. It was so inspiring that, not only I want to learn more, but even Charles wants to learn more! We've decided to read the Qur'an directly and evaluate the message ourselves.
I love you so much! Call me soon so we can chit chat and you can recommend a good translation!

This will explain the details of the metal snake in your toilet. It didn't catch on in America but you'll see it throughout Europe and some places in the Middle East. Of course if it moves around and has a flickering tongue it might be something else.
Really glad to hear that the trip went well and you got there safely. I'malso glad that we can follow you through your blog. I'm talking to Mike, so I gave him the blog address. He seemed glad to get it. Were you able to understand Arabic enough to figure out what people were saying?
Eye on you! Hey Alida!!
Great pics! I hope you have a fabulous time while you're there. I am confident that you will learn much and very proficiently. I will be following your blog religiously, hope to see some scenic photos. Be good, be careful and be smart!! Love ya, Conan
Blog Name Idea You should name your travel journal "Abog's Travel Blog" you know, because your initials spell ABOG and it rhymes with travel blog!! Ok, Ok, so maybe no one would get it, and that defeats the purpose of a title, but hey maybe if we all just start calling you A-bog (you know like A-rod) it will catch on!!! haha! love you! xoxox
Hooray! I am so glad you made is safely. Your room looks beautiful. The sun streaming through the window is lovely, and what a view!!
I think you made the right call when you selected the more advanced class. This is such an expensive opportunity, I think you would be sorely disappointed if you felt like even a single class period was a waste of time.
You look pretty in your scarf! The girls at school wear something under their hijab so their hair doesn't show, is that a big deal? Nasareen and I are going to Al Markaz to eat this week and we are going to check out that cute Middle Easter Boutique next door :)
I want to know how to say, "I love you sister" in Arabic. I know uchti is sister, but how do I say I love you?
