Our guided tour today took us to the village of Lesedi, an artificially constructed tourist site intended to display the village life of the major indigineous ethnic groups in South Africa, including the Basotho, Ndebele, Pedi, Xhosa, and Zulu people. It was interesting and informative, albeit a bit contrived. Totally geared towards naive tourists (people like us) with as close as possible authentic reproductions. We sampled a variety of food in their delicious buffet including crocodile, venison, and ...I wondered about the people who worked there - how many hours they worked, how much they were paid, and their days off. The village runs 2 "shows" per day every day of the week. Seemed like a lot to me, but, maybe they have a rotating staff, or at least one hopes they did.
