Hello Everyone, As we farewelled the Barossa one sunny morning with grape-stains on our fingers, grape-vines in the rear-vision mirror and memories of being called back to work after lunch with the word "Cupla" (meaning "a couple of minutes" before we start work again!), we headed across to the York Peninsula. But…as it turned out, we ended up in the Flinders Ranges, not because we had our map upside down, but thanks to our new friend Mohican!!… We stopped in a little town and as we emerged from the fruit shop we saw a slim shirtless man with a shaved head and lots of tatts. He looked like a biker from way back. He had a bunch of women in the car presumably partner, daughters and grand-daughters. While drinking a can of beer and jump-starting his ... read more

2 April 2011 Hello All! A week ago, on what we thought would be our last evening in the Barossa, we sat on the lawns of a lovely little family-owned winery and listened to live, local, acoustic music while eating our picnic dinner. It was lovely! But... we are still here in the Barossa!! Do you remember mention of grape-picking in my last entry? Well, fools that we are, we did it!! We have just finished a week of hard physical work and are both a size 8 now! We saw an ad. for grape-pickers and phoned. The immediate response was, "You're hired". That was the easiest job interview I've ever had! After I expressed concern about whether we would manage with our "nurses' backs", he said he give anyone a go. Good, anyone was us! ... read more

25/3/11 Hi Everyone, A lot to say after only a short time (no rude comments please!)... We left Robe Monday and drove along the flat, windy Coorong coast. Seeing dozens of majestic pelicans flying in formation was beautiful. We passed Lake Alexandrina - a huge expanse of water which is actually the mouth of the Murray river! We drew near to Adelaide and stopped for a poke around in Handorf, a gorgeous little town founded by German Lutheran immigrants which still has a very German flavour. We saw shops with German bread, sausages and even cuckoo clocks! In Adelaide we stayed at a lovely little caravan park in Mitcham which was set in a valley surrounded by hills and populated by dozens of huge river red gums. The oldest was right behind our van and is ... read more

Here is the last half of the first posting...sorry (especially to those who are subscribers to the blog and who are receiving email notifications of postings!). I am having a bit of trouble navigating this new blog site! After we left Port Fairy we spent a night in our first free camp - in the bush at Mt Schank - one of Australia's youngest volcanoes! Facilities were a public toilet, a BBQ and a picnic table. It was all legal - we have a book that lists all free camps in Australia!. We were joined by numerous other "grey nomad" caravaners (Sue is a grey nomad, I am a greying nomad!) and young European Kombi-vanners. The next day we visited the amazing Blue Lake in Mt Gambier and it is so blue it looks as if ... read more

Hello Friends, After an exhausting and busy time packing and cleaning both Sue's place and mine and moving our stuff into storage we finally left Melbourne on Friday March 11 and reached our first stop - the wonderful Port Fairy Folk Festival! We arrived without side-swiping any poles with our van and without the van falling off the back of the car!! Phew! What an achievement! As usual we relished the delights of camping in the caravan park with great friends, showing off our new van, and immersing ourselves in fantastic music. There are about 10 venues offering music from early morning (mind you musicians reckon anything before lunch-time is early!) until midnight and it is impossible to leave dissatisfied. It's called a "Folk" festival but there is such a range of musical styles with the ... read more
