We are in beautiful cambodia 😊
This morning we had another wonderful breakfast at our Saigon (ho chi minh, but the locals prefer to call it saigon) hotel. Had to try and get some US$ out (as both cambodia and vietnam deal in their local currencies and US), we took a tuk tuk to the bank, so much fun. Guy totally tried to rip us off with the price. We bargained him down, but still paid too much. Got to the bank and we had to have our passports to withdraw the money, something about foreigners.... couldn't really understand, but our hotel hold our passports for security.. ahh!!! So dediced to leave it until we get to cambodia.
Hang out at our hotel till the taxi arrived. Had a great chat to the young girl who helps run the hotel. Asked if Vitenam was a communist country (to see what she would say, as there is differing views), and she was like... ah... no more like developing. But they still only have one party for the government and elections are only to vote in a new leader. She also said that unless you work for the government or are
Vietnamese Shop
A local shop around the corner. Heaps of places like this, but then also big flash malls. a teacher you don't get weekends! Should probably stop complaing about the 4 weeks we get a year....
Love flying into countries, get to see the whole city from a birds eye view. Incredible river that runs into the Mekong. The airport was so different than when i came 10 years ago. No soldiers with guns, and its all been totally renovated! There are massive billboards advertising smoking, so foreign to us now!
Many similarities between vietnam and cambodia, but also many differences. I think the people here on the street are way friendlier. You work down the street and are asked every other minute if you want a tuk tuk or moto ride, but they always ask with a smile. Very happy people. Much quieter here, different vibe about the place. Way more cars here, vietnam had probably 80% motobikes or scooters. Lots of beautiful trees around, and many streets that are dirt with many potholes (alot from the war).
Found myself getting abit grumpy today (well tim pointed it out.... 😊, getting tired and hadn't eaten much, definetly need to keep the energy levels up, especially with the heat. Much happier now my belly is
full 😊 Went to this place just down from our hotel, and the food was incredible! $5.50 us for a glass of wine or juice, a main meal with rice and fresh fruit. The meal we got was a traditional Khmer meal with Khmer spices with chicken. It was served in this halfed coconut and was so yummy. There is so much fresh fruit, don't really eat fatty foods which is good!
We did something i'm not too proud of..... don't even know if i'll admit it..... we are really tired and wanted to crash out tonight, have a couple of full days here in Phnom Penh, and we saw this DVD store.... really cheap..... unreleased movies..... this ends here.
So, can't wait to explore the city tomorrow, love the cambodian people. This is a place to visit 😊
Internet quite slow, will publish photos tomorrow
