This week has been a very stressful week of lying on the beach on Koh Samet, an island just 40 minutes boat ride from the Thailand coast.
We left Singburi on Sunday at about 8am and got here about 5pm, so it was a full days travel but within 20 minutes of been here we were all on the beach and having a swim in the sea which is so warm, absolutley lovely.
We have basically just relaxed all week. Get up at about 9am, have breakfast on the beach and then just stay there until abut 4pm, shower and change and then head out for the night for dinner and a few drinks. You can do all sorts during the day, jet ski, quad bike, banana boat or parasail, but it is all quite expensive so most of us have just chilled.
The island itself is gorgeous. It is quite touristy with lots of shops, bars and restaurants but it is done well, not in a Blackpooly kind of way. There are palm trees all over and the people are really nice and chat to you all the time. During the day people just relax, but it
is at night that I actually prefer it. Everyone has dinner sat at little tables on the beach with candles and all the bars are lit up with lanterns. We always eat the the 'Ploy bar and restaurant' and Tee is the guy who looks after us every night, he is so funny! He is Thai but he has learnt English from a cockney and so talks with a really strong cockney accent, calling everyone 'bruv', 'love' and 'geezer'. Some of the people in our group are Swedish and German and find it really hard to understand him, I think everyone here now thinks all Londoners talk like that.
We eat at about 7pm, then there is a live band on the stage on the beach every night, and at half past 8 every night there is a fire show on the beach. All the waiters at the restaurant, including Tee perform for an hour to dance music. They have batons of fire, balls on chains and bottles with flames on and do tricks and dance with them, it looks brilliant on the beach just in front of the ocean. They are all so good, and afterwards people sat
down try and learn how to throw the bottles and batons, without the fire, but we are useless, they make it look very easy! There is one particular guy who I think is brilliant, his main trick is with a bottle with a flame stuck in it and he throws it around so fast, but they are all brilliant.
It is our last day today and I will be quite sad to leave the island. I think I might get a bit bored if I spent too long here, but I could stay a bit longer. The rooms we are in are lovely, the food is great and the night life is brilliant, but the next part of the trip will be good too...next post will be from Sydney!!
