Hello again, still no photos i'm affriad, but more words.
As i siad last time, we stopped off in Hyderabad for a few days. It was a nice place on the whole although every town/city here is badly polluted and noisy. Hyderabad is still a muslim stronghold in India. I've never been somewhere with so many fully vield women. It's pretty wierd when most women you pass are dressed in black from head to foot with only thier eyes showing. It's like being back in Manchester!
The first day was spent sleeping and eating and doing little else. On our sencond day we went to the Salam Jung Museum which was interesting. It's a huge museum displaying all the tresuers acumulated by a rich muslim family who where Moghul rulers in Hyerdabad. They have loads of stuff from traditonal costumes to itallian sculputers and English tea sets. It was an entertianing way to spend the day. We had a bit of a set too with the guard people who wantted us to leave our camreas somewhere outside the museum (we still really don't trust anyone here) but it was all ok in the end.
The next day we
went to Golconda fort. It's supposed to be one of the most impressive in India but it was a bit of a dump really. It was a pleasent way to spend the day however and there were good views from the top of the fort. While we we're going round a lot of people talked to us. I was waering my new Indian outfit and one young woman said she appriciated that I was waering Indian clothes and promtly produced a load of bangles from her bag and gave them to me. It's was a lovley gift but rather embaressing. I think we arn't very good at reciving spontanious gifts. We have been given them by several people.
That night when we got back to the hotel a man and his wife from the room oposite started talking ot us. It turns out he is a holy man and Krishna speaks through him. He was pretty 'out of this world' in a 'what the hell is he on' kind of way. We agreed to go and talk to him and let him show us his photo album. He spent 12 years in the himilayers meditating and generally getting in there with God. He now wants to teach the world and speard the love. He was a pretty cool bloke and it was very entertianing listerning to him. He imparted about an hour and a half of spiritual teaching to us. Including some talk of the stock market?! Basically he invited us to go and learn from him for 3 months so we could go back to England and teach yoga and meditation and spread his message. He was very sincere about it all and i have no doubt he really belived all he siad and was not just out to con anyone.
He told us some wonderful stories. He and his wife took his baby dusghter with them on a pilgrimage up the mountians. Dispite other peoples protest he was sure that taking the baby was a good idea becuase he had predicted that a Holy man was waiting for the baby. And what do you but as they were walking along a 300 year old holy man apeared, blessed the baby, wispered some message to her and disapeared.
This dude also predicted that google would be big. Well who didn't??? He recons he can predict the stock market. Very useful for a humble worl renoucner.
I thinkwe found us a very attentive audience as we were interested and knew a bit about what he was talking about. Alas, he could not have picked a more sceptical piar. A sienctist and some one who has studied religion; we just weren't going to drop everything and become spiritual teachers. We got an e-mail from him yesterday saying that as we had left hyderabad he too had moved on. Could it be that he had been waiting for us...............
On our last day we visited the mrakets. These were very cool. The food mraket was great. I'm used to having to hold my nose at the stench of meat and fish in SE asia but in this veggie heaven the whole place just smelt of freshly cut herbs. There were mounds of everything you could imagine to need for a dam good curry. All fresh and lovely. The other parts were pretty crazy with loads of people seeling everything you might need for wedding and lots of 'real pearls honest!'
I think thats about it for Hyderabad. Hope you enjoy the photos, not sure when you will get more.
Will you all send me photos of your christmas trees please? I've seem sams already and that was very nice.
Lots of love to all.
