As we travelled further North, peoples attitudes towards us changed quite a lot. There is still quite a large North/South divide even so long after the war, and perhaps due to the fact the North were actually fighting the Americans whilst the South were with them, and maybe cos of the way the French treated them in the past, they appeared to be more hostile, and certainly saw us as walking $ signs... Honestly, it was so bloomin cold, even Naths cardi came out !! Actually, he even had to make the ultimate faux pas in wearing socks with his sandels.....Tee hee !!

We treated ourselves to a nice Italian and I was even allowed a glass of red wine !! yummy...

This room cost us about $8 in the end, we had mountain views, two beds, a hot shower (!) cable tv, and.... a real fireplace !! The little man came up in the evening with a pile of logs and made us a proper fire !

The valleys are usually full of mist this time of year, but when it did clear it was bootiful

We hired a bike for the day, got right royally ripped off, but also found this gorgeous little village with narrow tracks for the motorbikes, needless to say...Nath went off to play on them for a while....!

Even these wanted us to pay them to take us on a 'walk' !

Back in Hanoi...

We arrived back in Hanoi from Sapa early in the morning, and found the lake was a hubbub of exercise ! The Vietnamese way... music blaring from an old ghettoblaster, women wearing their normal day clothes and grouped together wiggling their hips and waving their arms around ! Was pretty funny... the men would be somewhere nearby doing the weirdest stretching exercises, one was balanced on his head on one of the park benches !!

I'm jealous as hell!!!
Hi both of you. Your Blog is great. Wish i was with you but the next best thing is your blog. Glad you are enjoying your time. Just to say that Brett passed his car test this week so the kids are getting independant of us know so can start planning to go away soon. Somehow don't think can afford a year like you guys.
