my goal
i see you.. and i'm coming for ya. Hanoi doesnt have any buildings like this tall one so it's cool to see some of the differences between hanoi and saigon Feb 17 2013
Don’t want to go back to work and coldness! Today is the last day of my holiday and I couldn’t have had more fun… Well that’s not true because if I had the money I would have been able to indulge myself more. BUT with what I had, things turned out well. And for all this “hard work” I’m indulging myself today. Saigon takes credit card! =]
I had an amzing breakfast with Inida before she left for her morning flight back to Hanoi and now I’m sitting in a river side grass area soaking up the Saigon sun, reading and writing and reflecting. You for traveling alone for 2 weeks, I had very little time alone. I’ve met some really awesome people.
There is this super tall skyscraper in Saigon that caught my attention and awe since I landed here 2 weeks ago. My mission today is to get to the top of it. There’s this cool bit that comes off the top that I think is an observation deck. I walk the beautiful streets of District 1 until I find myself directly in front of the building. I hope they take credit card.
The odds or gods are on my side and I’ve never been so happy to pay $10 to go up to an observation deck!
Saigon captivated me as soon as I saw it out my airplane window and now up 49/50 floors, I’m so entranced by this 360 degree birds eye view. But I’m not out on the deck I saw, it’s still one more floor up so I ask about it. The staff tells me there’s a bar up there but it doesn’t open until 5pm. PERFECT! My credit card might hate me later tonight but I have a mission and I will complete it. After taking in all the sight from up top, that’s when I head to the river side grass and enjoy some alone time. Then after getting some what over heated I head to a shady street with a nice little restaurant with a overlooking balcony. I sit here, order a chocolate milk shake and nachos and watch life go by! I can’t wait til 5. Sky bar then air port and back home.
After being “deprived” of a variety of food and being on the cheapest cheap mode, I have such an
appreciation for all the food that I have eaten in the last 24 hours but nothing can top my experience at the sky bar. In my sweaty, dirty backpackers clothes and backpack, I’m sitting alone in this swanky sky bar watching the most beautiful sunset over a grand city. My appreciation for everything in life just lifts like 100%. So what do I do… order (the cheapest) bottle of bubbly to celebrate. It’s literally the most romantic setting, sitting here and drinking champagne. As the light fades, the city lights come alive. I figure that if I don’t eat dinner by the time I get home I’ll be famished so I order lamb kofta on lemon grass kebobs. WOW if I thought things couldn’t get any better… I was so wrong. This dinner was probably the best meal I’ve had ever. No exaggeration. I’ve had really good food before but I was just so happy and grateful and surrounded by beauty, it made everything come together. In the end I had to go catch a taxi, but not before I paid the bill… whoops. So much for holiday on a budget, but it was so worth it. But I must
the river
Saigon sits on a river that it some how doesn't sink into say after the drinking rampage in Sihanoukville my tolerance has gone up quite a bit considering I just finished a whole bottle of bubbly and I don’t feel it.
It was real Cambodia and Saigon, thanx for the memories and rejuvenation.
