So our driver comes to collect us at 9.30am to bring us to Hoi An and stop at Monkey Mountain and Marble Mountain on the way. As soon as we get to marble mountain it starts to rain, and by the time we get our umbrellas out of our bags in the boot we are totally saturated 😞
Monkey Mountain has a massive Buddha on top and a temple, the views are pretty spectacular too. It stopped raining after about 5 mins, and we spent about 30 mins looking around. As we were walking back to the car Deb and G had gone ahead of me and I heard someone going, excuse me, excuse... needless to say I thought they were trying to sell me something so I just kept walking, until I heard can you take picture. So I was like "yeah, sure, no problem give me the camera", but she is like "Oh no!, you in the picture" I was like "what?", before I know it there is a family around me and a baby in my arms. I was like WTF, and then after about 10 photos they are touching my arms going "ohh so beautiful..." so
as I walk away it is my new mission to get a tan, this paleness sucks!
Anyway back in the car on our way to Marble mountain, another Buddha on top of a hill...but there was also a stone carving village at the bottom which was kinda cool. Then back in the car to Hoi An, we had our hotel booked but the driver said he was taking us to a market where his sister worked to show us some things we might like.
We were just like right we will spend 10 mins to be polite, with no intention of buying anything, so he drops us to this market his sister is the tailor and says he will wait for us!
We come out 2 hours later, having put down a $50 deposit on: a dress and two pairs of shorts for me, two dresses for G and a dress and coat for Deb.
We were all like how the fcuk did that just happen??? Then we get back in the car and our hotel is literally around the corner...we knew straight away we had totally been scammed on top of that the receptionist tells
us the driver was in looking for commission, even though we had booked through Agoda and it was nothing to do with him, she also said never to go to the market to for a tailor they just rip you off!!!!
Anyway she showed us to our room which was fab, they messed up on the booking any we had the superior room for the price of the standard woop woop unfortunately we only booked for one night 😞
So we went for a quick walk to get some food as were were STARVING, ended up in this little place facing the river and ordered tuna sandwiches which were the nicest tuna sandwiches we have had so far.
So we went back to the room to get settled in and Deb n G looked up the books again, I had a little snooze. Then we went out for dinner, we had to walk through the food market to get to where the restaurants are and not only did it stink to high heaven but they were all in your face wanting to sell you something, but we got through unscathed and walked along the river there are
just loads of identical houses/buildings that are set up as restaurants with the front of the building open with tables set up, the only problem is they all look alike, and are terraced, so for every menu you look at the neighbour is trying to get you into theirs! So it was impossible to make a decision on which to go to.
We eventually decided to go to the place with the smallest menu cus it means they specialise in one thins and hopefully they are really good at it! Well we made the right choice, we went to a restaurant called Hong Phuc, that specialises in fish in banana leafs. OMG it was amazing, melt in the mouth, yum and the woman who owned the place the nicest woman named Bảy. When it came to dessert there was a really small menu and I wanted banana spring rolls like we made in the cooking class in Thailand. So I asked her for them, at first she looked at me like I had 10 heads, but she let me explain exactly how to make them and then said ok Ill try.
So they came out and woohoooo they
were yummy 😊
We stayed and chatted with Bảy for ages and then went home to bed!
Very sleepy...
