A beauty
Halong Bay-world heritage site and a bay of around 2000 islets of jagged rock-completely bare in parts and covered with deciduous trees in others-most of these rock pillars are so steep you would be hard pressed to make a landing on them. There are several small floating villages in the bay where the inhabitants never actually set foot on land . Here they farm oysters -one can watch them seeding the molluscs in a high tech operation for growing pearls -they achieve a success rate of around 20%. They cultivate fish in large nets which form pens amongst their floating houses and they also cultivate tourists.
Unbelievably (or maybe not) here you can buy the pearls made into earrings,necklaces ,brooches and , yes -credit cards are accepted. One of these remote houses in the middle of the bay even had a Bank logo on its roof!
The cruise was relaxing and as you can see from the photos we kayaked from the Paloma to the floating village on a dead flat sea in sunshine .
The evening meal was relaxing after a sundowner on the upper deck and the following day we visited a large -cathedral like -limestone cave , before

No Damp proofing
returning to shore and a minibus/taxi ride back to hanoi airport and as you see onto Hoi An-that's another story...
