Hi everyone hope all is well back in blighty. Well I'm behind again by about a month on my travel blogs but I guess that's a good sign!! I''m dedicating a whole afternoon in this internet cafe in Siam Reap to catch up! Firstly congratulations to the Rouses on the addition of Nathan to Rouse towers!!!! That was wonderful news to receive and I will be wetting the babies head at some point this week at the Angkor Wat? bar in Siam Reap. For some reason I was convinced it was going to be a little sister for Holly! Jon could you text me your address as I wrote a card out before I left.
Ok Hoi An - it was an amazing place and my favourite city so far (favourite country is Cambodia). Quote from travelfish 'The UN's cultural agency listed the historic and quaint trading town of Hoi An as a World Heritage site in 1999. The riverine town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a 15th to 19th century Southeast Asian trading port. Hoi An's "buildings and its street pattern reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that combined to produce this unique heritage site," UNESCO says.
One thing I've noticed over the last few months is that is usually takes me a few days to get settled into a place when I arrive -Hoi An was an exception to this. From the moment I got there after flying to Dannag from Hanoi I new I would enjoy it. The staff at the Nhi Nhi hotel were really friendly and made me welcome. It was a Friday and the GAP tour who had left ahead of me while I was in SAPA were arranging to meet in the Where Else bar on Le Loi street. After a few beers and some lovely crispy fried noodles with chicken followed by banana split it was time to say a final farewell to the gappers who were flying to Siagon the next day. My plan was to spend at least a week seeing Hoi An and Hue which was 4 hours by bus up the motorway. On the Saturday I met some other travellers over breakfast at the Nhi Nhi (Fergus and Scot) and we headed into town for some aimless wandering. Hoi An is also famous for its tailor made suits and shirts and for USD 70.00 I had
3 shirts and 1 pair of trousers tailor made! Bargain! The daily market is a great experience as well.
Hoi An is full of lovely souvineer shops, lantern shops, tailors, great restuarants ( Mango rooms, Good morning vietnam) and bars. The Where else bar was always full of travellers and also a student group from Sweden who at 2.00am every night started shouting SALSA and promptly walk out !!! I realised on the 3rd night that this was the only nightclub in Hoi An across the river on Cam Nam Island and not that they were all going Salsa dancing. Hoi An also has some great books shops selling copies of publications about the Vietnam war and also second hand books ( Randy''s). The waterfront area which leads up to the Japenese bridge is really nice where you can catch boat trips or just chill out in one of the cafe''s. Well then I''d better get on with the next post Hue......
