Hoi An FestivalHoi An FestivalHoi An Festival

Our first night in Hoi An there was a huge show on a stage built out into the river. It was complete with 2 big projection screens, 5 or so cameras, stage lighting, fireworks. And... we forgot our camera. So we took a picture of it on TV back at our hotel
This was such a lovely city! An Indochina Cultural Festival was being held during our stay. Although the photos show that we experienced it from the comfort of our hotel room, we did partake in the festivities. Whole families came out and listened to the traditional music and munched on an Eastern version of Kettle Corn. The performances were held on an elaborately decorated barge that served as a floating stage. Hoi An by night is magical. Chinese Lanterns flank either side of the Thu Bon river and children skip around the street giggling with their pals. The city appears to come to life at dusk probably owing to the oppressive heat of the day. During the afternoon hours, tourists like us visit cloth shops to order tailored-made clothing. Brendan and I took advantage of our hotel pool before and after our fittings.

Walking home from dinner our last night, I almost stepped on a tiny kitten that was left on the side of the road with a string leash wrapped around it's neck. Thankfully, a nice Vietnamese family lead us to a Cao Dai Temple to drop off the abandoned kitten. If we hadn't run into this family, I

WWJJD?

A number of times on our trip I ask myself, what would Joe Jordan do (WWJJD). Here is one answer... the ultimate rental car in Vietnam, a US army jeep.

We've seen a lot of soccer but almost as much volleyball in SE Asia. Here was what appeared to be a big match near the My Son ruins.

"informational" posters

We've seen a ton of these posters everywhere in Vietnam. We are still trying to translate this one... it appears to be about voting.

Translation
Hi Allison!! I asked Hieu to translate the "informational" poster and here is what she said: "It is telling the Vietnamese citizens to vote for the person with the knowledge and strengths to support the communist government"
