On the way to 'Monkey Island'.
Friday, April 10th 2009

When we got up today the weather hadn’t improved much, but we were lucky and it cleared up after we had some breakfast. We decided to rent a motorbike for the day and just cruise along the coast until we would find a nice beach. We drove for some time, had a typical vietnamese (second) breakfast in a fishing village and then saw an island that looked nice. It turned out to be ‘Monkey Island’ a place both Jeremy and I had found interesting and had wanted to go to! There was a shuttle (by boat), which took us to the island that was about 20 minutes away from the coast. We had a nice time laying on the beach, swimming and relaxing for a few hours. Our boat ticket also included a dog and monkey show, which we attended. The dog show was alright, but the way they seemed to treat the monkeys was just awful. They made them walk like humans, put circus costumes on them and it was obvious that they had been trained with cruel methods, since they looked sooo scared whenever the trainers came near them. Even now, several days later

Who wouldn't want to live here? =)
I can’t get those images out of my head and it was quite a disturbing experience for me.
Shortly after the show we headed back to the mainland to see if we could find the mud bath and hot springs, we had heard and read about. After missing the road signs several times, we eventually found a road leading (so it seemed) to nowhere. But we found it! 😊
It is basically a spa-like place outside with different stops at different kinds of pools that would be good for your skin. I almost skipped the “legendary” mud bath, because it felt so weird, but then I was glad that I did it, since it reall makes your skin feel good. After that you showered with warm salt water, stod between hot sprinklers for three minutes and then relaxed in various hot salt water tubs. Everything had salt water, even the showers at the end, and some of the pools were almost too hot (38 degrees and up), but afterwards we could tell a difference in the way our skin felt 😊
It was a fun and interesting experience and when we got back to the hotel, we were quite tired. But today was fun, spontaneous and wonderful! 😊
