Paul in the torrential rain
This was the weather for most of our time in Nha Trang! Monday 27th October - Arrived in Nha Trang at 5.30am after another dodgy journey. The bus would speed through as fast as possible despite the roads being covered in potholes. At about 5.15am we reached the coast as we entered Nha Trang. There was the most fantastic sunrise over the sea and the nearby islands but as my bed was in the middle of the bus i couldn't get a good picture. We aim to stay here two nights but if it rains then there will be little point as all the tours are beach based. After a nap for a couple of hours we headed to the beach. Despite it being overcast it was great as there were no sunbathers clogging up the sand and we pretty much had it to ourselves. You can see all the nearby islands from the coast and hopefully tomorrow there'll be a chance to go and visit them. Right now though we are back to heavy rain so cannot do much. That night we went for a couple of quiet drinks and i went for a bit of late night swimming, but i went back to the hotel quite early as i decided to
try and get up to see the sunrise.
Tuesday 28th October - Somehow managed to get out of bed at 4.30am and we headed down to the beach, hopefully to catch the sun. I couldn't believe how many people were up and about! It was rammed full of locals on their early morning speed walks, or various other forms of workout. Now i know why everybody goes to bed so early here. We sat until 5.30am for the light but it turned out to be pretty overcast which was really disappointing. So i went back to bed. At 8.30am our bus came and picked us up to go on a boat tour of some of the surrouding islands. Firstly, we went to a place where we could swim and snorkel but our hotel receptionist had warned us that the snorkelling was a rip off, so we just amused ourselves by jumping off the roof of the boat for a bit. After an hour here, we moved to another island and saw the locals who lived out here. Their houses were floating on the sea itself. Our guide then announced it was happy hour and we were all made to
drink plenty of horrible tasting wine. Whilst we were doing that, the locals set up a small band and played a few songs for us. They were actually quite good and their drummer was only about 12. From here we went to another island where you could relax or go for a swim in the clear seas. I got bored though so went off exploring to pass the time. Finally, our last stop was at an aquarium on a 4th island but there was another fee to get in so we gave it a miss. By now it was pelting down with rain again as we headed back, but all in all not a bad trip for $7 each. That evening we went for a curry for something different, and then had an early night. We set off on our 6 hour journey to Mui Ne at 8am the next morning.
