Fishing in the river
Local fishermen just casting out their nets Relax on the beach, explore the old town, experience magnificent food, and even do a bit of shopping.
Hoi An is a fantastic place to visit. The old city has plenty of history and culture, great food, and good quality hand made clothing and shoes. We did a cooking class at the Red Door cooking school that was fantastic, and included a market tour (make sure you do that) and a trip up river to the restaurant. Great eating places are everywhere, but Morning Glory was our pick. The food is fantastic. A number of the restaurants have upstairs balconies overlooking the river. Hire a bike and ride around the streets, or a scooter if you want to go further. Give yourself a few days to get shoes made. There are plenty of hotels or B&Bs in town, however we stayed on the beach at Sunrise, one of a number of quality resorts. Taxi ride's to town are cheap (about USD6), but you can ride. The boat trip to Cham Island on a traditional old boat is well worth doing. Good snorkelling, not as much fish as other places but the coral was good and lunch was on a beautiful
beach. The people are lovely, very helpful and not as pushy to sell you stuff as some other parts of Asia.
