After the hellish trip to reach Hanoi, we need a day to catch our breath. Which turned out well as we only spent one day in Hanoi before heading south to HaLong Bay. We did manage to tour the city a quick bit and get a little flavor for Hanoi. It is a very clean city and organized...nothing like we expected. I guess coming from India we expect lots of chaos everywhere. Instead we had a relaxing time watching the many scooters move about and busy Hanoi street life go about its business.
We stayed at a lovely hotel (Bamboo House) with a balcony overlooking the street. Little did I realize that the street traffic (lots of scooters beeping horns) would reach a crescendo at 6am and then the local loudspeaker system kicks in at 8am. Thank you to the manager for not mentioning that when she showed us the room.
It's off to HaLong bay...and hopefull some good sleep.
Most of the journal entries are from my 14-month round-the-world journey I took from May 2005 until July 2006. It was an amazing adventure which took me to some incredible places and allowed me to meet a great group of individuals. Feel free to email me about any of the places I have been or with questions about traveling. Remember, a tourist knows where they are going but can't remember where they've been BUT a TRAVELER knows where he/she has been but not where he/she is going!... full info
