I’ve just come back home from Hà Giang province after traveling over 1,000km overland on a 5-day tour (14/4 to 18/4/2012). Hà Giang is the northernmost province of Vietnam which has 274km border line with China. The province is home to 22 ethnic groups (mainly ethnic minority people) and it’s famous for the best mountain scenery in Vietnam. This is my second trip to the province. Eight years... This is one of the local specialties cooked by the ethnic minority people, however when it's cooked for Vietnamese, it must be cleaned. The ethnic minority people often cook "Thắng cố" with all the parts of horses or oxen.

The route we traveled: starting from Hà Giang city -> Quản Bạ -> Yên Minh -> Phố Cáo -> Sủng Là -> Đồng Văn old town -> Lũng Cú (the northernmost point of Vietnam) -> Mapileng pass -> Mèo Vạc -> back to Yên Minh -> Quản Bạ -> Hà Giang city. The other side (Trung Quốc) is China. There is no direct way from Mèo Vạc to Hà Giang so you must go back to Yên Minh.

H'mong minority in Ha Giang
Thanks for the interesting story on your adventurous trip to the northernmost province. It's very interesting for me to have learned "white H'mong" in Ha Giang where the ethnic women wear skirts in white, while the other groups of H'mong people are respectively called "black H'mong", "flowery H'mong", "blue H'mong" "red H'mong" etc depending on women's skirt colours. I would speculate each group of H'mong is proud of their own color as a symbol.
