Dive boat
Typical dive boat around the island we dived On 2nd September I had a relaxing day in Chiang Mai. In the evening I went out for dinner with Ron for Thai Hot Pot, which was really good. After dinner we went to a bar with live music, which was an experience. The lead singer in the band was a ladyboy, singing heavy metal songs and also playing the guitar. What a laugh….you have not seen a real heavy metal band before you have seen one with a ladyboy lead singer!!! It ended up being another late night and Ron was as usual a fantastic host - thank you Cinnamon for introducing him to me (he is such a laugh).
On the 3rd I flew from Chiang Mai to Puket. I had to stay one night in Puket town before taking the ferry to Phi Phi Island next morning. Phuket town is such a boring place, but I killed time by getting something to eat and reading a bit.
Next morning I took the 9am ferry to Phi Phi Island. I stayed at the Phi Phi hotel, which is in the middle of the area where all the hotels are. I did not do much that day as
Diving
Island we dived closed to at Phi Phi I was a bit tired, but did manage to book a dive for the day after.
On 5th I went diving together with about 10 others. Most of the people were taking a dive course and only 3 of us were Padi divers, so we dived together with 1 instructor. It was really nice dives and we saw loads of interesting things. We did two dives and returned in the middle of the afternoon. In the evening I meet up with the guy from England and the girl from France that I dived with. We went to the hippie bar, which was a laugh. They had a fire show at about 23.30 that went on for nearly an hour. Apparently they are the Thai champions at fire show and it was much better than the one I saw in Pai.
On the 6th I decided I needed a few days of relaxing after a bit too much partying lately and decided to go to the northern part of Phi Phi, which is much quieter. I booked into a luxurious resort for four days. I had to take 45 min long boat ride to get to the resort. When
Hippie bar
Out for drinks at hippie bar. The bar is on the beach. I arrived, it was like arriving at paradise. The resort had its own beach and it is so quiet.
I stayed four nights at the northern part of Phi Phi and relaxed most of the time reading but also went swimming, snorkeling etc. After having dinner in the hotel the first night I got bored of that (I somehow hate eating in hotels) and had dinner in a nearby Gypsy village the other nights, where the food was cheap and very good.
I left Phi Phi Island on 10th and took the ferry to Krabi. From there I took a 2 hours bus ride to Ko Lanta, where I had booked a bungalow with sea view for six days. When I got to the resort I was surprised by how quiet it was. It is low season at the moment, but found out I was the only person staying. They had upgraded me to a beach bungalow, but my first though was that I would not stay here long as I would die of boredom. At dinner I talked with some of the staff and they were such fun and we ended up playing jenga. By the end
of the evening I had agreed to give the staff an English lesson the day after.
The weather on the 11th was not very good and it rained a lot. I hang out in the restaurant/bar area reading my book. I did a 2 hours English lesson later in the afternoon with 8 staff members. They all want to improve their English and have a restaurant/hotel “learn English book”, but no teacher - so that is where I come in….. After the class I played an hours volleyball with the staff which was fun…they might not be as tall as me, but boy they can jump in the sand. As I am the only person staying they ask me well in advance if I would like anything special for dinner, which is fantastic. I have for two days now had amazing fish and seafood for dinner.
The weather on the 12th was sunny and really nice. I hang around by the pool enjoying the weather. In the afternoon one of staff asked me if I would like fresh coconut, which I kindly said yes to. She said she would get the monkey to climb the coconut tree. Five
Fireshow
The finale was the about 6 of them did their show at the same time minutes later she shouted at me "come and she the monkey". It was one of the staff that climbed about 10 meter up the tree to cut of coconuts. They served it to me with ice cubes and it was nice and refreshing in the heat. In the evening we had another game of yolleyball.
