So here we are, the last leg of our journey, Thailand.
As I mentioned previously we aren't staying in Thailand for as long as we initially anticipated due to the rainy season. Due to this we have now skipped Phuket and Koh Samui, Phuket being the worst hit at the moment with constant thunderstorms day and night.
We headed straight to Chiang Mai in the North West of Thailand with an unfortunate stop over in Kuala Lumpur for the night. As you could probably tell we weren't too impressed with Malaysia during our stay in Borneo, and our experience of Peninsular Malaysia was not any better. We stayed in a 3* Hotel near the airport. Our room was diabolical and extremely expensive at £15 for the night (everywhere else has been £5 a night) best of all the toilet was outside and very grotty. But enough of that as thats boring.
Chiang Mai was quite nice especially for a city, it wasn't as jam packed and busy as the other asian cities we had visited. We were only here for two nights and our priority was Elephant rides!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The highlight of my trip!! The reason for me coming
on this trip. Our day tour was very relaxing. We started at Maesa elephant sanctuary, we watched an elephant show and a couple of the baby elephants painted a picture with their trunks which was fantastic. I wanted to purchase the one by Suda the Elephant, but because I was on the tour they started hurrying me on and I forgot to get it which is a bit annoying, but I took pictures which is good enough. We then went on our elephant ride - yipeeeee!!!! We sat on a bench type thing on the elephants back and she walked through the river and the jungle, then the elephants' trainer jumped off and let me sit up front on the elephants neck and we walked, then I swapped with dad, it was really nice that the guide did that for us and he took loads of pictures which was lovely of him to do, it made my day!
We then went on an ox cart ride and a bamboo river raft. We stopped for lunch which was surprisingly delicious, all the other tour food we have had has been absolutely disgusting!!! And few people on the tour end up
with an upset stomach. Then we headed off to an orchid and butterfly farm, as I said a very relaxing day.
The next day we headed off to Bangkok. We had booked a 4* hotel has a treat for ourselves and it was lovely. We spent our time relaxing and shopping. We took the skytrain to the great Chatuchak weekend market and that was humongous!! We were going to go sightseeing on the Monday but unfortunately I woke up with a very upset tummy and I was sick, so i spent the day in bed to recover as we were due to start traveling home the next day, so I had to make sure I was fit and well for that. So because we missed seeing the sights such as the Emerald Buddha, the worlds largest reclining Buddha, the Grand Palace we didn't really do anything. Dad and I tried some dried squid a Thai girl gave us and it was absolutely disgusting!!! It was like chewing really fishy card that just wouldn't break down - yuck!
We went to Patpong in Bangkok which is the red light district of the city, I wanted to go just to
Have you ever seen anything like it??
and it jumps about a foot high Eeeeeeeeeeekk!!! see what it was like, dad wasn't too keen on the idea but we went anyway. When we got there dad was being hassled constantly by men trying to get him to go to shows and they'd step in front of me to get him on his own, and they wouldn't take no for an answer. It was very seedy and not particularly nice so we had a drink in a bar and left.
Tuesday I felt much better, our bags were packed for the last time and we embarked on our last journey, the long journey home. I have had an excellent time over the last two months and so has dad. Its been an experience full of memories I shall never forget. I could quite happily turn around and do it all again!! (well maybe I won't go back to Kuching) unfortunately I can't do that, so I'll make my way home to the miserable drizzly weather in England, I'll stop sweating from every pore, have a proper cuppa tea, sit down and start planning my next trip me thinks!!!
