Phuket is a place I love visiting. And, as it's only 2 hours by plane from my home in Chiang Mai, it's somewhere Archie and I try to get to as often as we can. Being Thailand's biggest island, it also boasts a large international airport. This means, not only is it easy for me to get to but also for people travelling from further afield. Because of this, Phuket has become a natural meeting place for us to get together with friends and family travelling from Australia and America.
Phuket itself offers
plenty of things to do and explore, whatever mood our visit might take. A short boat ride brings you to numerous desert islands to explore, picture perfect with white sand and the classic palm tree to relax under. For something a bit more surreal how about Phuket's amazing Fantasea? Fantasea has it all; elephants, trapeze acts and a story that manages to combine fantasy and tradition into a spellbinding performance that you have to see to believe.
Our Trip Mission
This trip to Phuket, however, wasn't all about beaches and shows. On this trip we needed to combine a bit of business with the pleasure because, and this is
the really exciting bit, we'd decided to buy condo in Phuket!
Buying a condo in Phuket is something Archie and I have often dreamed of but not got around to looking into. However, we were prompted into turning dreams into reality when a friend introduced us to
Michael Aumock. It turns out Michael is a bit of an expert where buying property in Thailand is concerned. He'd proved invaluable to our friend when they'd been looking at investing in luxury apartments in Phuket. After meeting him, we were very keen for Michael to share his expertise with us and to give us some tips. But first, we needed a plan and somewhere to stay.
Accommodation
We'd decided to stay at
217@HKT on Phuket Road. The people who run it are not only incredibly helpful but also make you feel extremely welcome. An added draw for me is their hanging chairs! I love sitting in one, gently swaying, sipping a coffee or a beer whilst watching the world pass by. It also seemed a great place to have a planning meeting. Sitting in my favourite swinging chair, Archie and I spent a couple of hours coming up with a plan
for the ‘Buy Condo in Phuket’ mission. Planning proved to be hungry work so once we had a plan of action we headed to Naka Market (also known as Talad Tai Rot, Chao Fa Market or Phuket Town Weekend Market) to ogle at the vast array of food on offer and maybe try a morsel or two... or maybe even three.
Phuket Property Hunt
The next day was time to put part one of mission ‘Buy Condo in Phuket’ into action. We'd arranged to meet Michael at his office at
Thailand Property Advisor and hoped he'd be able to point us towards some apartments or, better still have time to show us around some. Michael proved to really have his finger on the pulse when it came to advising about buying a condominium in Phuket and before we knew it he'd arranged for us to visit several gorgeous properties.
The first on our list to visit was The Ocean Boutique Residences, a modern three-storey development of stunning 1 bathroom and 2 bedroom units near Bang Tao and Surin beaches. The penthouses even have sea views and the beach itself is only 5 minutes walk away. Each of the apartments has a glazed terrace and the whole complex oozes luxury and sophistication. It didn't take much to imagine myself relaxing or entertaining friends there.
Our next stop with Michael was not too far away. The Lofts is a development as close to Surin Beach as you're likely to get and overlooks Kings Park, home to Phuket's first golf course! The complex also has a restaurant. What more could you ask for?
I have to confess we didn't think Michael would be able to top The Lofts or
The Ocean Boutique , but then he took us to Mount Azure at Kamala Beach. The only thing that would have added to its perfection was a swinging chair for me to relax in! Michael really does know his way around luxury apartments in Phuket and certainly gave me a lot to think about regarding buying a condo in Phuket.
Although it was a busy day, Archie and I can't wait to look at more properties. It's very exciting to think we may soon own something on this beautiful island, and I love the idea of being able to share it with visiting family and friends. If it's near a beautiful beach, an elephant sanctuary or the stunning Wat Chalong temple then so much the better.
