We stayed 2 more nights on the Island taking a day to visit the main port Pangkor (the only place on the island with a cash machine) We didn't get up to much here - adding the last blog - the highlight was the odd pancake snack we had. It was like a pancake or crepe but made from dough rather than batter. Mine had egg fried in with it and a curry, Emmas was the sweet option and caked in strawberry syrup. Emma spent the time eyeing mine up until eventually I let her have some curry. It was delicious. A 12 Ringot pink and yellow taxi ride back to our camp and it was getting on and we were far too tired to do more than just lie on the beach - so we did. That night we ate in the same place as the first night going for beef (chinese style) Egg Foo Yung and Noodles. We went home early to get some rest as we were kayaking the next day.
We hired the kayak from a bloke on the beach and set off in the opposite direction the loud Raar's rocking theirs and splashing around. We
headed for the right hand side of our island a small beach that sat right on the edge of the jungle we cracked out the crisps and water and had a rest. Emma posed as a mermaid whilst I discovered that dead coral hurts to walk on. A local fisherman watched us scrabble back into our kayaks and we set off for coral island where we had been told we could find sea cucumbers and urchins.
We went round the back of the island with the sea to our right. At one point Emma was convinced she had seen a shark and so we paddles quickly round to the beach on the other side. A woman & her child picking crabs from the rocks smiled and said hello as we paddled onto the shore. With not much to do on this island we finished off the crisps and headed back to our beach. The bloke said we had been 2 and half hours and so charged 25 RM (4 quid) - great!
We had read that there was a waterfall on our side of the island and thought if it was easy enough to get to we should
go see it. We wandered up to edge of the jungle and round a sign pointing in the middle of two roads. We took the one on the right and wandered up to a stream we couldn't cross - with much screeching and huffing (Emma mainly) we headed back on ourselves to go down the right path.
This lead into some fairly think jungle with a path marked by ribbons on trees. We pushed onwards climbing over fire ant infested logs until we could hear the waterfall. Emma was losing some enthusiasm at this point but we made and it was by no means the best waterfall in the world but was definitely worth the walk there. On the walk back after I had been bitten by a fire ant Emma decided to go one better and proclaim she had a leach stuck to her. After insisting i burn it off then also that i leave it to get full and fall off we eventually pulled it off after much screaming and panic (Emma later described this as pandemonium) we headed onwards. Upon exiting the jungle i saw a leach on me as well. Rather than being allowed to
pull it off straight away Emma insisted on taking a photo first. We got back to the camp to find my sandal covered in blood from one we had missed in between my toes - yuck.
We went for our last meal on the island - Emma had yet another noodle soup and i had a soy beef set meal with rice and stuff. We packed up our bags and got an early night to prepare for an epic journey to Thailand.
