Day 6
We started our day early per usual. Kemper wasn't feeling 100% but being the trooper that she is (and fear of missing out) she was determaned to power on. We decided to walk over to the much talked about Tham Phra Nang cove. The path way to get to the beach was breathtaking in is own. It felt like we were walking through a limestone cave that opened up into a fairytale beach. Minutes after we arrived the beautiful blue skys turned dark and a cool breeze picked up. The weather felt perfect. For the first time in a week we werent sweating. We sat on the beach to take in all the beauty. We agreed this is by far the most beautiful place we have ever been. (pictures can't do it justice). Without notice the sky started pouring rain. There was no sprinkle or drizzle to give us a head start. We quickly gathered our things and took cover under a tree. The monsoon let up after a couple minutes. Kemper tried to jedi her nausea but it was clear after a few dry heaves that it was time to head back to our room.
The
rest of the day Lindsay explored the "island" and periodically checked in on Kemper who couldnt keep a thing down. We are pretty sure that Kemper got food poison from the night before. She had a suspicious feeling when our ladyboy waiter-tress served her a steamy curry shrimp dish she didn't even order. Reluctantly, she ate it anyways. Every bite sealed her fate on the bathroom floor for the next day, which pretty much sums up the day.
Day 7
After a full day and night of sleeping Kemper is finally able to hold down some food. So we pack, check out and book our ferry ride to Phuket. Although there is no ferry running this day and we are stuck on the "island". After some not so stellar negotiating with the local boat boys, we end up taking a private longtail boat to Krabi town for about 1000baht (30 US dollars). From there, we ended up in another "negotiating with the locals" situation trying to secure our ride to Phuket. three hours, Two mini vans, several roadside stops, a lost driver who spoke no English, and 1600bahts (50 us dollars) later are finally arrived in Phuket... and
met Karen.
Karen is a 58 year old British phenomenon who now resides in Phuket. We were introduced via email to Karen through a friend of Kemper's mom. And if anyone has ever met Kemper's mom, you never know who could be waiting on the other side. We originally had no intention of visiting Phuket. It was not on our list of "must sees." But something was drawing us to Karen. Maybe it was the onslaught of helpful emails or her passion for Phuket... Whatever it was, we had to find out.
So we finally arrive to a gorgeous hotel/ spa called "Phuket Pavillions" to meet Karen for drinks. Our taxi pulls up to these huge iron gates. After a legit security check, the gates open into the most serene and posh driveway leading up to the resort. According to karen this is the place where all the celebs hang. In fact, boy george was just staying here last week. It was a little slice of heaven, and these two backpackers stuck out like sore thumbs.
As we rolled up to the lobby, we spotted Karen. She was more than we could ever ask for... a beautiful
blonde with a ton of spunk and ready to show us the finer things in life Phuket has to offer. She took us on a tour of Phuket, drinking wine, and teaching us of all things "fab".... Maid service is a must, never do anything for yourself, rich men, fab spas, fab cities in Asia, Chanel, and sponsoring a kid is the cost of only one pair of fab shoes. Needless to say, we learned a lot from Karen. She took us into her home and showed us a good time.... And Kemper only fell asleep at the table (mid conversation) once the entire night.
