Most of the population of Northern Thailand is Buddhist. Buddhist temples in Thailand are called Wats. We went to visit one in Chang Mai that is called Doi Suthep (Doi sounds like “toy” only with a “d” and Suthep is pronounced more like Sutep) All around the temple walls are depictions of scenes from the life of the Buddha. In the center people light candles and offer roses at the feet of a Buddha statue for prayer.

Remember how I talked about the hand gestures having special meanings in India? The same is true for Buddhism. This Buddha statue is making two different hand gestures but they're both gestures of meditation.
