No money, no honey in Costa Del Phuket!

Well another fruitful 3 days have passed, resulting in a few more tales to tell! We left Bangkok on Saturday and caught a flight down to Phuket, not realising that we had picked a hotel in Patong aka Costa Del Phuket. Its basically a hot spot for european families, mainly germans! We spent all of sunday on the beach, and Alex got er....'slightly' sun burnt (see photo), whereas Darren only burnt his nose (quite a comical look!) and his back a bit.

That night we decided to hit Balang Road, an absolutely crazy area full of hostess bars, who literally come out and drag you in and dont let go. After a few cheeky whiskeys we sat down at the first bar, called the 'Wet Dream Bar'.... We proceeded to spend 2 hours playing connect four and jenga with the waitresses, all the while the lady boy next to Alex was persistently trying to play footsy and buy him drinks. Our lack of expertise in Jenga resulted in us losing a bet and having to do a forfeit... pole dancing on the bar (see photo!). Although Alex did get a free drink for winning a game of connect 4! In all the excitment we spent the money we went out with and retired to our room, only to get more and return to the bars. We sat down at another bar and within 10mins we were getting made drinks by a very nice man who was apparently a thai tv star known all over the country. 6 free shots later, and numerous photos, he seemed to have taken a shine to Darren and gave him his number (and a meeting place for the next day!); which unfortunately he was unable to attend...

Needless to say that we were feeling very rough the next day, and had a LONG lie in. Too much sun, sea, whisky and rejecting ladyboys had taken its toll! So we decided that a quiet island is what we needed. We've just arrived in Phuket town to stay one night, then we are getting the ferry to Ko Lanta at 8:30am tomorrow to stay for 5days.

**We forgot to give an honourable mention of the Tuk Tuk driver in Bangkok who was able to pull off some very impressive but terrifying wheelies.**

I’m so proud of you chief, you are now a true exponent of the “when in Rome” philosophy, continue to share our teachings throughout the world! Keep enjoying, incredibly jealous and remember: when in…..(that however does not apply to ladyboys!)

Island Life
Hi Al and Darren, Glad to see you made it to the quieter spots for some rest. However, I am curious about your accommodation. Has Alex lowered his standards from 5* luxury yet? If you are in a 'Beach Hut' does he still have to have en-suite, aircon and a daily maid? Mam said your malaria tablets are safe 'cos you left them in your bedroom. Kep the photos coming
