Krabi

This was our first destination where we had not booked any accommodation. The ferry was greeted by hoards of taxi drivers, bus drivers and people trying to sell accommodation. Absolute chaos and pandemonium with the bus drivers making the routes up as they went along and moving bewildered passengers and baggage around seemingly willy nilly. We had fortunately got the names of some hotels from the Internet and just asked for one of them. The bus was an experience with the luggage piled up on the rear step or on a simple roof-rack passengers squeezed in and a chap stood on the back, presumably to catch the bags as they fell off!! The busses turned out to be courtesy busses and we were dropped off at the door, phew. The hotel we selected, at a place called Ao Nang turned out really well, the rooms were small bungalows set in some really pleasant gardens. We have taken some island trips via “long tails” which are lunatic boats with a car engine fitted on a ball-joint to the transom and a long propeller shaft (10 - 12 feet) 3 feet of pipe for an exhaust and a tube at the

top into which water is poured if the engine gets a bit too hot. They whiz around very noisily but they are both cheap and quick. White sands of Thailand and snorkelling done we decided that Malaysia and the island of Langkawi were to be our next destination.
