I have always loved exploring my country Thailand, its unrelenting landscape, rich culture, serene, green rural landscape and many sights to see. I had a similar
trip to Krabi with my friends a while back. It turned out to be one of my best vacations in an affordable paradise. Read about it in my blog. I also expected the Krabi family holiday to be equally exciting.
Krabi is located in Southern Thailand, a relaxing destination located between Trang and Phang Nga. It has over 150km coastline covered with pristine white sands and turquoise water. The inland has caves, cliffs and several waterfalls.
Road Trip from Phang Nga to Krabi Town
Our journey started with road travel from Phang Nga to Krabi. Phang Nga is my hometown, a place where I have grown up. The journey takes about two hours through some of the most serene areas in Southern Thailand. Our journey took almost three hours as we made stops along the way. The road meanders along with hilly landscapes that are filled with greenery, forests and rock outcrops. The Phang Nga Bay can also be seen from a distance. In addition,
Than Bok Khorani National Park is along the way. The famous
Jams Bond Island is not far away from Phang Nga.
We had a brunch in one of the local seafood restaurants near the park and bought some local jewellery and themed toys at several of the stops we made on the way. We enjoyed the cold breeze on the way down. A large part of the journey was through the greenery, which looked good and is relaxing for a road trip.
Accommodation at Krabi Holiday Inn Resort
We booked our accommodation at
Krabi Holiday Inn Resort, one of the kid-friendly luxury resorts along the Ao Nang Beach. Our kids enjoyed full daily activities offered by the onsite recreation teams. There were watersides, free-form pools, swim up bar, treasure hunt activities and a large playground.
We enjoyed a comfortable bed, a balcony with a freeform outdoor pool with scenic views of the landscapes around. There is also an island bar where we enjoyed a cold beer and tropical cocktails. We had our first dinner at the roof of the resort lobby. It was candle-lit and provided prominent views of Ao Nang Beach. We relaxed into the night at
Wave Bar and had our breakfast at Inn Asian Restaurant. For the next three days, we stayed at the hotel as we explored the town of Krabi.
Day One: Some Time at the Beach
Our first stop on the beach excursion was Railay Beach, which is not far away from our hotel. This small peninsula has four beaches. We particularly enjoyed the clear, turquoise blue water and white, sandy beaches. This is a luxurious sunbathing. The area has several large limestone cliffs, a cave system and lagoons. The spectacular beach is cut off from the road network by jungle and the cliff thereby, giving us a calm tropical paradise that is free of any hustles.
Day Two: Enjoying the Charm of Krabi Town
Krabi town has a unique feel and personality in contrast with the surrounding beach. We enjoyed lots of traditional Thai cuisine, live shows, hospitality and culture. Our first stop was the Tiger Cave Temple for a spiritual encounter. We also enjoyed the fresh air and a bath at Krabi Emerald Pond and warmed ourselves with the hot spring. In the
evening, the kids had fun at Krabi Speedway before enjoying dinner at the Lagoon Bar in the hotel.
Day Three: Outdoor Fun
The final day of our vacation started with a hike at Khao Khanab Nam on either side of the river. We also scaled one of the caves in the area and saw the stalactites for the first time. In the afternoon, we visited the specular Phil Phil Island. Despite being a busy town, we enjoyed its turquoise beauty, took some snacks and danced in an outdoor live performance.
On the last evening of our stay, we had such a romantic evening with my partner by the pool below our suite. Krabi Holiday Inn had great accommodation for families, which afforded us some time away from the children. It was such a lovely vacation.
