For the last three weeks of our trip Lorna’s sister Phil and boyfriend Rob
came out to join us. We picked them up at Bangkok airport and took
them out to sample the delights of Thailand, namely Sang Som whiskey -lethal stuff!

While in the capital we popped into the Grand Palace to see the King (who wasn’t in). Then from Kaoh San Road we took a bus out to Kanchanaburi to visit the Bridge over the River Kwai.

We then decided we had done enough sightseeing and it was time to
hit the islands! Our first stop was Koh Tao to learn to scuba dive. It
took four days of studying (what a shock to the system that was!) and
learning scary things like taking your mask off underwater but we all
survived and made it to 18 metres deep. It was amazing down there.

From Koh Tao we took a boat to Ko Pha Ngan to chill for a few days as it
is one of the more unspoilt islands. It was beautiful, with white sandy
beaches and calm, clear blue sea. Just the relaxation we needed after
the excitement of our scuba course.

Then our last destination of the entire year was Ko Samui. Lorna and
Phil did a Thai cookery course while Mark and Rob played Football Golf
but asides from that we did not much more than sunbathe, dip in the
pool and stroll along the beach. It’s a hard life!

It was sad to leave our visitors behind on the island but it was time to
go home at last! We went back to Bangkok to fly home to England.
