Waiting for the ferry to Koh Tao at 4am All of a sudden 2,5 weeks gone by and... we are still here. Im not quite sure how this happenend but well, sometimes you just have to go with the flow 😊
After a long and rather uncomfortable bus journey (well, especially for tall people) and a few hours on a boat we finally arrived on Koh Tao. As we were really tired we just jumped on one of the taxis at the pier and ended up in Sairee, the main beach and probably not the most beautiful. However, plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from (most of them serving anything from Thai dishes to pizza, tapas and English breakfast - yeah, exactly the kind of food you expect in such a tropical location 😉).
Due to the fact that its low season at the moment we found a lovely little beach bungalow for almost half the prize. Nice.
The first few days we spend discovering the island... which actually can be done in one day. There are some lovely littel bays and beaches but its quite difficult to get there sometimes. The main road is not too bad but the rest of the island only has dirt tracks and
sometimes steep roads... quite a challenge to go where you want to go with the scooter. So it did happen rather often that I had to walk up the hill as the scooter failed to get the two of us up there or I jumped off it in panic as the roads were really bad. Additionally, it doesnt really help to see around 30% of all tourists here with bandages... if those are from scooter accidents, coral encounters or some drunk stupid actions... who knows....
Snokelling is however amazing. We even saw a shark at one day... fortunately only a reef shark. So - after this snokelling experience we were both very much looking forward to seeing more of the underwater world. As I already got a divers liscence Ian decided to do his Open Water as well. There must be around 30 dive schools on Koh Tao so not too hard to find one. There are little differences in prices and offers so after a little bit of shopping around we found one we liked. 9000 baht including 4 nights accomodation for the Open Water in a nice beach front bungalow. Deal! I also did my scuba review in

Hin Wong Bay the pool as I havent been diving for the last 3 years. A good investment.
So the next few days Ian spent doing his course while I was fun diving. And it was fun. Loads of angel-, butterfly-, goat- and whatsoever fish. We also saw a turtle and the great barracuda (which also looks like a lovely dinner). Also we had some great instructors there not only for diving but also for the apres diving. Thus, after Ian finished his course I decided to do my advanced course here as well. So I did navigation (still no clue on how I should find the next dive site), peak performance buoyancy (how not to crash into the next coral or your instructor), night dive (dark), deep dive (down to 30 metres which is a little bit scary) and fish ID (mhh, how to identify fish I suppose).
The rest of the time we spend on the beach trying to get a tan (not everyone with the same success😉), watching Muay Thai Boxing, eating lovely fresh seafood, getting the most brutal Thai massage of my whole life and going out for a few buckets (messy).
And... yes, I had my birthday here.
I had a lovely day playing miniature golf in 45 C and snorkeling. In the evening Ian organised a surprise BBQ at one of the dive instructors place and I eventually found out what all the secret preparation he was doing the last few days was all about. Good food, great people and loads of cheap Thai vodka... loved it.
So now its finally time for us to move on. No, we are not just yet becoming dive instructors... although, maybe... who knows 😊. Tonight we will be leaving on the night boat to Khao Sok national park. Very excited about another adventure.
Love to everyone from beautiful Koh Tao
