Welcome to Ko Tao!
Welcome to Ko Tao! Well folks!
Its Angela back again to fill you in on our time at Ko Tao & what a fun time it was too! All of our time here was fab but the main highlight of it had to be the Snorkelling Day trip!
First of all...i might need to fill you in on a little incident which happened the night before snorkelling when walking home from Sairee - like a true multi-tasker, i was trying to open a bottle of water whilst crossing the road & as you can imagine, in true style i slipped & gave myself my first foot injury - a wound to the big toe!!!! Now granted, it wasnt life threatening but the blood was running out of it & my main concern was....How will i get this foot & battered toe in to a FLIPPER in the morning!?!! (Louise, you know most of all about toe injuries...remember NY Eve??!!) I never slept that night for fear...... nor did claire...but thats because she was busy lying listening to a mouse scratching the wall beside her bed....
So the next morning, we boarded the truck to the harbour, collected our Flippers & Snorkell kit
& got on the boat! The boat was lovely - basic in its facilities etc but there was tea, coffee & sarnies so we were all happy!!! 😊 There were approximately 30 of us on the boat, of which the views from it were beautiful & not a cloud in the sky!
First stop was Shark Island! - And before you ask, we didnt see any sharks! Others did but as i'm sure you can imagine, we weren't too disappointed! 😊 So off we got from the boat all kitted out - by that i mean Claire & I were about the only 2 with Life Jackets on us! (we were the only 2 non swimmers!) But to be honest, we couldn't have done without them! I had never done snorkelling before so after a few initial disasters with the mouth piece & a few litres of salty water in my stomach, i eventually got the jist of it & totally loved it!
After approximately 45 minutes, we got back on the boat and sailed off to the next island, Mango Bay (most renowned for spotting turtles & for its crystal clear waters!) Again this was gorgeous and
the amount of different fish & various water species down there was crazy! So after another short stay here, we then headed for Island Number 3 - this was somewhat further away on the boat...providing just enough time for Joanne & I to feel a little...seasick! No joke folks, it was AWFUL!!! We had felt it a little bit up until this stage but only on this part of the journey did it really kick in! And we were so sick!!! ie Both of us were hanging off either side of the boat - a pretty picture as you can imagine!!! Water pollution wasnt at the top of our priorities i assure you!! Claire obviously had a great laugh as you can imagine! Watching the 2 of us changing colours (enough said!) but thankfully by the time we reached island no.3, we were fine again!
When we got there, we then decided it was time for the Snorkell Group Photo! So we passed the camera to an Israeli guy who was staying on the boat for this one & left him in charge. So Joanne got in to the water...followed by Claire ... & then me! And at this
point, well this was the point where you all nearly lost me!
Because upon jumping in to the water, my life jacket which wasnt really attached properly to me completely went up over my back! Obviously as you can imagine, i was in a complete state of panic, squealing, laughing, splashing like a total mermaid & at the same time trying to get the girls attention!!!
But all they could do was laugh! Because what i hadnt realised, was that my snorkell kit had completely fallen off me aswell & landed at the bottom on the sea! Both Claire & Joanne were in complete convulsions laughing at me whilst at the same time trying to a) fix my jacket & b) get the trip organiser's attention to jump in & save the snorkell kit! & if that wasnt enough, Mr Israeli on the boat was busy trying to get a picture & shouting at us to smile!!! - but trust me folks, there was nothing to be laughing at!!!!
Anyways, needless to say, the snorkell kit was saved & the jacket reattached & we snorkelled about for another half hour! It honestly was so funny though, obviously not at
the time but as i sit typing this and think back, it was hilarious!
So after that traumatic event, we got back on the boat, had lunch & went to the final stop which was a Coral Reef Island! This was absolutely gorgeous! (see pics) We stayed here for about 2 hours and then returned to Ko Tao that evening.
Was such a brilliant day & would totally recommend it to anyone - even the non swimmers!!! The remainder of our time on Ko Tao was spent checking out the local sites, hiring out bicyles to make our own way around - we didnt fancy the scooters just yet! And then our final day on Ko Tao was spent on the beach at Sairee. This had to be the nicest beach we've seen yet (& yes we do say that about them all!) but it really was! Water was very shallow but roasting hot and sunset was gorgeous - see pics! And a few tipples were had along the way in a bar called Choppers (Very nice & good craic for those of you thinking of heading to Ko Tao! 😉 )
And that was our 3
days on Ko Tao! Short, sweet but absolutely brilliant! Totally loved it & would tell anyone to visit Ko Tao when on the islands - The next few days were travelling days, as we had to make our way from Ko Tao to Chumpyon & then back to Bangkok on the saturday night. The next morning (Sun 30th), we flew from Bangkok to Hanoi (Vietnam) where Claire will fill you in on our antics there!
In the meantime, hope everyone is well & enjoying the blog!
Lots of love,
Angela xx
