the deep blue!
and its very blue at that. Sa wat dee,
After the worst overnight journey ever, we eventually arrived in ko tao exhausted. We weren't able to get much sleep and we were woken at 4am to have some breakfast at this stop, as it was 10 mins away from the port and the ferry didn't go till 7am. The bus got going about about 5.30am, so we arrived with lots of time left to wait. We arrived in ko tao at 9.30am after a smooth ferry crossing. Our first impressions were really good, we got a transfer just along the beachby someone that was waiting for us at the pier. However, we had to stay at a sister resort 5 mins away, by a taxi transfer as they didn't have enough room for us, but we got the feeling it was because we weren't diving with them. Theres quite alot of predjustice about it on the island actually, as it is the biggest source of income and most popular reason to come to ko tao. The sister hotel though was ideal as it was in a better location and brand new hotel.
After dumping our stuff we went off for a wander, so we could
chillax in a hammock..
...right by the sea, what more could you want! see what was in our surrounding area. We were close to a long strip of bars and restaurants, which were along the beachfront. We found ourselves just sitting on beanbags on the beach, having a few beers at the cave bar, watching the sea - it was really surreal but really good too. It was really beautiful, so realxed!
That evening we had dinner at a nice restaurant on the beach, we had red snapper, barracuda and HUGE prawns. Its all so fresh and really nice with fresh lime squeezed on top ive discovered. After a long strenuous day we headed back to the hotel for a good nights sleep and for once we weren't going to set an alarm! We woke up at nearly midday - we must have been tired to sleep in that late, but we felt alot better for it. We had a brill breakfast just along the road and then headed for the beach. The beach was gorgeous with white sand and clear sea with palms all along the beach. Unfortunately there isn't much sand though! We played abit of volleyball which was a giggle although competitive streaks came out though! Haha. Before we
Ko tao...
..and lots of fisherman knew it, it was time to go get showered and get some dinner. We could see how easy it would be to get caught up there, as time just 'Flys by', (That one was 4 u luko and ado!).
Later that evening we went exploring a few more of the bars along the beach, so we knew where to head for on new years eve! We found out about a few parties which were happening so Han could sample different cocktails. The bars were really cool with each part of the beach just outside each bar lit by tall stick lanterns, stuck into the sand with little tables, with palms wrapped in lights all over the place.
Next day we went to the beach again, but unfortunately since we have been here it has been quite overcast, so sunbathings not as good. We bought a couple of snorkelling sets and headed to the sea. Han is trying slowly to get better with fish aswell! The water is so warm, its really nice to go in, so it would be a shame for her to miss out. We looked into dives, but the visibility has been really poor so
we may look at doing in when we get tp phi phi or lanta.
So it was NYE and time to party! We got all dressed up and headed for the strip. We went from bar to bar wo where the biggest party on the island was happening. Everywhere was really nicely decorated with ballons, banners and streamers, music banging from everyplace and lots of people. It was so much fun! On the beach we looked up and saw loads of yellow coloured stars and then realised that they were moving. It was only then that someone told us they were huge lanterns, which worked like a hot air ballon. When we release them you are to make a wish, so we decided to get one and release it - there were hundreds! As we released ours, it didn't have enough air in it and it staryted to skim peoples heads and started heading into a bar, but our guy run after it, so we could release it again. We partied on the beach, drinking cocktails and beer til late into the morning. We celebated new years at a bar called 'MOOV' and it was really awesome. The locals
set up big 'Happy new year 2008' banners and burning signs in the sea. It was one new year we will never forget, with the sand between our toes! Unfortunately our NYE pics got deleted so we don't have any to show for it but it was an unbelievable experience.
The next morning we woke, without a hangover (For a change), and headed to the beach for snorkelling. We ate at a bar called 'Choppers' to watch the new years day footy and listen to live music from a band called the 'Aviators'. After a relaxing day and a nice dinner, we went to bed as we were off to Koh Phangan the next day, we had both really enjoyed ko tao!
So until next time, party on dudes
