Of course the day we are leaving there is not a cloud in the sky. We went and had some breakfast beside the beach and waited for the taxi to the pier. It was pretty funny seeing everyone after the full moon party. People had paint all over them that they tried to get off but couldn't. A lot of them looked like they hadn't slept at all. There were people passed out on the floor, people with their head in hands etc. Tris and I just laughed, happy we weren't feeling as shitty. The ferry was 30 minutes late, it was on Thai time. Nothing is fast in Thailand, except their driving. We got on the ferry and found a couple seats. Drunk people stumbled by looking for places to sit, but we stayed put as we didn't want anyone with beer sweats sitting beside us. When we bought our boat ticket we bought a taxi ride to Chaweng beach as well. When we arrived at Koh Samui we jumped into a minivan which would take us to the Nids guest house we read about online. There was another girl from Whales going to the same place. She had took
a boat from Samui to Phangan for the full moon party and lost all her friends. She was hoping they'd be back at the guest house when she arrived. As we were about to leave another drunk mess stumbled up and got in. The Thai man came to collect our tickets, and 'drunk mess' didn't have one. So the Thai man tried to get him off the bus, but he refused so Thai man just gave up.
At the guest house we were pretty impressed with the overall hospitality. The lady (assuming the owner) offered us some food, had people to carry our bags to the room etc. It was really nice. Tris had a hot shower which he was really looking forward too, then we got dressed and went for a walk to find the beach. Getting our bearings is always a challenge at first, as the maps are never 100% correct. We were both in awe of the beach. Its soft white sand as far as the eye can see, with crystal clear aqua water that you can see right through. The beach stretches 6 km long. You can walk and walk and walk. We grabbed a
bite to eat and realized quickly that things are more expensive here. A diet coke is double the price of what we were paying before. This island is way more commercialized. There are McDonalds, Starbucks, Burger King etc. If you look though, you can find authentic Thai restaurants.
We walked the streets and markets for a bit. Tristans getting pretty sick of being asked if he wants a suit made. After a while all the shops look the same. It is not uncommon to take your shoes/sandals off before going into a store. I've finally figured out that that is why everyone wears slip ons. We went into one shop for Tris to look at some sunglasses, and when we were about to leave my sandals were gone. My first thought was, 'who would want to steal my sandals.' I mentioned this to the man that was running the market stall and he started looking too. Turns out, his son slipped them on to run down to a stall a few sections away. We all laughed it off and we continued on our way. Tris ended up finding a pair of sunglasses he liked and the ladys starting price
was 750 baht (roughly $23), I laughed and said there is no way he is paying more then 150 baht. So she came down to 500, and I said no last price 150. She went down to 200 and we said forget it and started to walk away. Then she can a running and said OK OK. So we paid $4.50. Shows you how much they mark stuff up. Apparently its worse in Vietnam.
We were pretty tired so we headed back to our room. We watched some tv and then turned the light off to get some shut eye. Did we sleep though, NOPE. The bloody cat kept meowing right outside our door, and then scratching. And if it wasn't the friggen cat, it was the caged birds right beside our bungalow. ALL NIGHT! Tris said he also heard a lady on the phone yelling for a couple hours. There is also a running waterfall or something close by, because we could hear running water all night. And at one point a bunch of fire crackers were set off and created a huge BOOM. Tris was surprised that I didn't wake up from it. We woke up numerous
times swearing and yelling and banging to get the animals to shut up. A few points through out the night we were ready to go out there and kill something. When I get over tired I start laughing and cannot stop. Poor Tris hit the cat with the door when he went to go outside, then the cat tried coming in the room and he slammed the cat in the door. Woops. The cat still wouldn't go away so he through water at it. Thats when it finally got the point. Needless to say, neither of us got much sleep.
At 5:30am we finally said screw it, got dressed and went on a hunt to find a new place to stay. Since we are on a pretty developed island, and we are close to the most popular beach, room prices can be pretty steep. We checked out 3 and they were all more then what we wanted to spend. We decided on a place called Chaweng Palace for 800 baht a night ($24). The bed looks really nice. It actually comes with a duvet (we've been covering up with top sheets or towels lately, so a duvet is a
big deal). The pillows are nice and plump, it has air con, a fridge, free wifi, and the bathroom is pretty swanky. And best part yet, it's only a couple blocks from the beach!
Right now we are sitting back at the first place waiting to pick up our laundry. The birds are still effing making noise. FML. Otherwise we'd be gone already. We won't be leaving this guest house a nice review, thats for sure.
--- Later in the day---
We spent the majority of the day at the beach today. I got stung by what we assume was a jellyfish on my neck of all places. We went the pharmacy and told them what happened and they suggested an antihistomy cream which seemed to have taken away the bumps and reddness. We grabbed lunch and McD's. I tried the spicy chicken burger and it was pretty good! I wonder how long it will take to get that in Canada. Tris had his normal, a Big Mac. After lunch we headed back to the beach till about 2:30. My legs and chest started getting pretty red, as well as Tristans face, so we decided to head
back to our room. We've showered and will prob go for a walk in a bit.
We had dinner at a place called Reggae bar. We were the only people in the whole place. The live singers basically seranaded us with love songs the entire time haha. The bbq'd kabobs we had were so awesome we ordered 2 orders.
