Sawadeeka!!
We can't believe we've come to the end of week 2 already! This last week has just flown by and its been great!
Other than working on the beach we haven't done much! But don't get me wrong... this job is AWESOME!! We have concluded that it muxt be at the top of best jobs in the world!!We're having a lot of fun, getting some exercise and of course working on our tans!! What more could we ask for?
Last Saturday night we went to Monkey Bar, it's right on the beach, to the extent where the waves are breaking at the chairs and tables. We met one of the guys we work with there and had a lovely evening. There were fire dancers and good music and it was generally very enjoyable. Sunday morning was a bit more intense however, as it was extremely hot (of course!) but luckily enough we didn't have to do any walking, we were both placed in separate locations and were able to chill under umbrella's the whole day. Think the best part was that we got to ride Jet Ski's as well, awesome! I've discovered my new favourite thing - Jet Ski's! They're
incredible and so much fun. Ok, so maybe I'm still trying to build up the courage to go fast on them but at least I'm still enjoying myself!
The highlight of our days would have to be EATING! We find it so enjoyable. Now friends and family back home - picture this! Those who have eaten at some traditional Thai restaurants and who have had a take-away given to them in a plastic bag, tied up with an elastic band (exactly the same as when you buy fish at a pet shop for your home tank!). This is exactly how we get our food here. So there's this big almost-laundry-type-basket filled with bowls, plates and Thai spoons (slightly shallower than Chinese soup spoons). The rice comes in bags as well and is quite literally poured out on a plate and then handed to us with a spoon. In the meantime, about 5 different curries and a pork soup are 'poured' into bowls. So once everyone has their rice they then start their meal. It seems as though the main technique is to dish up a bit of curry, eat it, then dish up a different curry. So in other
words, you don't have more than 2 curries on your plate at one time. It's such a simple yet totally brilliant way to eat. You are actually tasting each curry properly. Now, of course, some of the curries are quite spicy and that is what the soup is there for. I think they only get soup because Tracey and I are there... We're not complaining! It's more like a pork broth. It's a clearish liquid with chunks of pork and pieces of cabbage. That's it. So this helps to dilute the more spicy curries or can be used to clean your mouth before you try a different curry. I must say though that the portions of rice that are dished up for us have increased, which means we get to eat more curry! Yay! It's really an enjoyable experiece. We all sit around the food on the pavement. There isn't much talking as everyone is eating. Arroy mak ma... Very delicious! If we don't seem to be eating enough, someone will dish up something onto our plates, so there's no getting away from it. Luckily we actually enjoy it, but if we didn't, it would be a case of "If
you can't beat em, join em!" Now I don't have any pictures of our eating as I've been too focused on the food... typical me! But soon, I'll take a few over a few days to give you an idea of what exactly it is that we're eating! This is definitely the way to do it in Thailand!
So A and Noom (2 of guys we work with) thought it would be fun to take Tracey and I out on the banana late one afternoon. Now for those of you who don't know what a banana is, the this long tube you site and and get pulled behind a speedboat. We had both never been on one, especially not out at sea! But we did it. Wow! It was intense! Obviously these 2 are seasoned professionals and we were therefore going really fast and the water was quite choppy already. We wiped out twice, quite naturally as these things don't function properly going through a wave! It was great fun and we made many people laugh!!
We've even been snorkeling this week. Not at some fancy location but just in the areas where we've stopped off and had a
break. I even went in the surf, no rocks or anything to look at as I went to look for shells. The water is incredibly clear and I didn't really need the goggles, other than for the high levels of salt in the water. It was beautiful! Didn't see any fish, or shells for that matter but it was fun nevertheless!
It is Sunday evening and this coming week is going to include the Full Moon Party at Koh Panghan! Should be great as we've heard so much about it! Here's to a good week for you all. We'll catch up next week!
Ciao Ciao Bye!!
