We were up and ready to head for our next Island (Ko Samui) at 08.00am for our pick up to the pier to start our 3 hour boat journey to Ko Samui. We would have to go to Ko Phangan first and change boats and then get another boat to Ko Samui. We had about 10 minutes of sunshine on the boat and then it went slightly over casted, but we were just chilling at the front of the boat admiring the stunning scenary and listened to our music. Luckily the boat was not that busy, normally everyone is crammed on like sardines!
Once at Ko Samui we had once again had done our research and found that if we travel to a place called Mae Nam we should find the best deals. Most backpackers travel straight to Chaweng but we thought we'd give Mae Nam a try and if we didnt like it we'd move on. So we got into a taxi with around 8 other backpackers who all were travelling to Chaweng but we got talking to two german chaps who both decided that perhaps our options sounded better! The taxi man dropped us off and the 4
of us started our mission to find the best bungalow for our money! Well if you know Scott you know that he likes to know that he has the best deal for the best price....so the first german guy gives up after 5 minutes of walking along the beach with our backpacks and decides to choose a bungalow for 350bht. Then there were 3. So it seemed silly all walking along with our bags so i stayed with all the bags by the roadside and Scott and this german chap stroll along to see what other bargains they can banter for. After another 10 minutes of me sitting there, the german guy walks back and says "i've found one for 300bht, that'll do for me! But your friend, he keeps looking"............50 MINUTES later! Scott is walking towards me as if he has walked a thousand miles and can confirm that the 300bht bangalow is the cheapest! At least we knew in our hearts we had a very good deal! Once getting into our bungalow, happy with what the Thai owner had shown us, they realised that there was a leak under the tap, and up-graded us straight away to a
nicer bungalow...result! By far the nicest we had stayed in, this one actually didnt have any holes and the bathroom was clean!
The beach was the most beautiful beach we had stayed at whilst being in Thailand, the sea was crystal blue and you could look either side of you and see white sandy beaches with only a handed full of people dotted along...pure bliss!
As we had not eaten all day (trying to cut back on a few meals to save on the money!) we got showered and changed and thought we'd have a wonder around to see what we could find. It felt like we were the only Western people there, but all the Thai's we're very friendly and happy to talk! We found a bar which was offering steak pie and chips...before i know it Scott was dragging me into the restaurant, trying not to dribble everywhere! After a few beers i started to get a very high temperature, i wasnt feeling good but soldiered on for a few games of pool before going back to our bungalow for the night.
The second day on Ko Samui, we hired a moped and explored the
island. The roads were very busy and we had some scary moments! But Scott's bike control had got alot better so we continued around the coast of the island. We wanted to go and see Chaweng to see if we were missing out, but turns out we wern't! When we got there, it was basically a smaller version of Bangkok. It was seedy and smelly, and we started to feel really good about our choice of location. We then decided to head for a waterfall, but once again were disappointed once we got there as we walked down a very slippery hill for around 20 minutes (was not meant for flip flops!) and there was once again no water. So we decided that we'd give up on the waterfalls, as all of them seemed to be dry. We carried on driving around the island, it all looks so similiar, with street cafes and stalls but after 3 hours we managed to spot our turning into our resort.
It appeared that my high temperature had decided to come back in the evening so we just went and ate at the same place as we had the previous night. We had
become quite good friends with the Thai bar staff and one of the girls invited us to her birthday party on the following Monday. Unfortunately we would have left Ko Samui then, but we talked to them for most of the night, talking about the different cultures etc. During the evening, the biggest down poor of rain was happening. The streets were flooded within 20 minutes and we thought it would calm down and then we'd walk home but no such luck! To be honest, i wanted to go stand in it as my temperature was so high! I decided i wanted an ice cream, so we got an ice cream and walked home in the pooring rain. Everyone was looking at us if we was crazy!
The third day we decided to rest as i had had another restless night, so we just chilled on the gorgeous beach and took it easy. Scott made a new best friend on this beach, he named him buster and was a gorgeous little puppy! He would not leave us alone after he realised he'd made a friend and in the end we were trying to teach the little thing to swim!
We had an early pick up of 06.30 am the following day, so gave ourselves an early ish night and packed ready for the extremely early pick up! Once morning came we just had got up to find the Thai driver knocking at our door rushing us out of the bungalow, we threw all our stuff into our bags and made a run for the bus. It was only a small minibus, and we picked up maybe 8 other people. The journey took approx 20 minutes to the port and once there we waited for our ferry. Scott got some crisps, a bottle of water and a glass bottle of redbull! and their redbull is not like back home, this really gives you a kick! So we woke up pretty quickly after a few drops of that! The boat ride was around 1 hour 30 mins. Once on mainland again, we were heading for a place called Krabi to stay for 1 night on the main land, before heading for Phi Phi Island. We got a large coach for around 1 hour and then, as usually they chuck everyone and everyone's bags onto the side of the road, and
everyone sort of looks confused and wonders what is going to happen next! After around 1 hour at this drop off point, a mini bus turned up like the one we had going to the port originally and im not joking when i say he literally crammed 10 and all our bags into this thing! I had to sit next to the driver and Scott next to me. It took in all 1 hour 30 minutes, but it honestly felt like a life time! Not the most comfortable journeys we've had!
until next time! x
