Happy times!
Alcohol induced smiles! Before I start, I just want to apologise to our mothers for the amount of drunken behaviour contained within this Episode. We would like to assure them that this is totally out of character, and was mainly influenced by the intrinsic party atmosphere here on the Thai Islands. We promise to improve our behaviour in future weeks.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello again folks. Just another quick word from Southern Thailand. Since the last update, we've moved on to the East coast islands, where our ubiquitous Lazyness has continued!!
Took a long boat and land journey across Thailand, finally arriving in Koh Samui. Although much more commercialised than Phi Phi, Samui has it's own charm and is one of those places that just seems to eat up your time without you knowing it. In spite of overcast weather (yeah yeah - bet your all loving that!), we've spend the majority of our time on or around the beaches.
We bumped into some old friends on the beach here, Trish and Pauric (hello if your reading :P). They probably did their best to avoid us, but we eventually stalked them at a local beach bar called "Ark". Imagine just settling down to relax
Bottle Beach (North Phangan)
Someone told us that you can sometimes get stranded at this beach! They told us this AFTER we got there! Chaweng beach
Crowded, but still nice.and then seeing big old me out the corner of your eye - poor people!! As I recall, we had 1 or 2 drinks together. I should add that the drinks were described on the menu as "Buckets"!! After Trish and Pauric left the island (Don't blame them after putting up with us!!), we "replaced" them with an Irish Couple we met, Carl and Rachal, and got just as merry with them! (Howdy to you guys if you're looking in)
After a few days of this drunken idleness, we began to feel guilty and decided to try out a few of the islands activities. Item one on the agenda was the ridiculous but hilarious "Zorbing". Zorbing is, basically, where they stick you in this big plastic ball (Like a giant see through beach-ball) and push you off a big hill. Now I know all the men amongst you are thinking "Cooooool", whilst the ladies are probably shaking their heads and wondering "Why oh why"!! Zorbing, if totally silly, is a great laugh and was something different from lazing on the beaches.
We've also tried out "Football Golf". This is not, as Lucy imagined,
Chaweng Beach
Crowded, but still nice. a game of golf with
Pauric and Trish
Dam Irish Drunkards, leading us astray!giant Clubs and footballs. Its actually a little golf course where you have to kick the ball into the holes. Whilst I was quite comfortably the winner, Lucy's performance was surprisingly good. Obviously, about 10 different people asked me if I was some kind of pro footballer, and I had to insist that I was just an average Joe!! Funny really, I seem to be incredible at anything I try; except when Lucy does the write up.....
Headed out to Koh Phangan on Tuesday Morning. Phangan can be described as Samui's little Brother; got lots of similar characteristics, but not been as spoilt yet! Checked into a cute little Bungalow resort near to Sunrise Beach. As our photo proves, the Beach was an agonising distance away, but you have to be brave in these difficult times!! Having been deprived of proper sunshine for a few days, we quickly got ready and headed for the beach! After a while we got bored, so hired a boat and took a change of scenery to another beach. These are the hard conditions we are forced to live with at
Connect 4 shark!
If your wondering about his sneeky grin, he has just fleeced me for $2!! the moment.
Second day in Phangan we booked a "Magic Reggae Boat
Bottle Beach (North Phangan)
Someone told us that you can sometimes get stranded at this beach! They told us this AFTER we got there! Trip"; the only truth within this description is that it was a boat tour. We reasoned that at some point there probably was some kind of reggae theme (or possibly even some Magic?), which had been lost in the upsurge of tourism. That said, it would have been a really good trip, had the heavens not decided to open up on us. The Free dinner included with the tour did NOT make up for the poor weather....
With the disappointment of the trip weighing heavily on our minds, we decided to get a couple of "Buckets" of alcohol and suitably drown our sorrows! Suppose I should elaborate; there is a thriving Bucket market here on the islands. You can basically buy a small Bucket of your choosing, which ordinarily contains:1 bottle of strong alcohol, 2 Mixers and a few slices of lemon. Very, very classy!!
During the evening we met some "interesting" characters! First of all we met a Guy from
Football Golf - Glory at the 18th
The game was the real winner. Well actually I won...by a mile! Dublin, who was extremely drunk (and maybe mentally ill?) and just kept saying, "I've been drinking since 12, I've been drinking since 12". We assumed that he meant since 12 O'clock that day; turns out he meant
Chez Phangan
Our Beach Bugalow! The Hammock doesn't like me! Everytime I get in it, there's a horrible creeking noise. But no noise for Lucy; can't work it out!since 12 years of age!! On the way back to our room, we bumped into a "lost" Australian guy. Lucy managed to convince him that we were ALL out on his stag do! He wasn't even getting married!!
We saved our empty buckets, hoping to use them to make sandcastles in the morning. Woke up and some crook had bloody stolen them.....
Spent the next day nursing hangovers (sorry moms) and recharging our batteries in preperation for Lucy's big day.
Lucy's Birthday fell on Friday 13th!! . As you can imagine, the day very much belonged to Lucy. As if by an act of god, or maybe through Lucy's shear birthday determination, the weather turned amazing and we spent a great day on the beach. Lucy was ecstatic at

Our Beach Bugalow! The Hammock doesn't like me! Everytime I get in it, there's a horrible creeking noise. But no noise for Lucy; can't work it out! the Green Lilo I bought for her birthday; I always told her she'd live like a queen.
Spent the early evening at a swanky restaurant in the town. Then we headed down to the beach bars to celebrate! The same night happened to be the "Black Moon Party" night. This was not a fortunate coincidence by any means; imagine Blackpool meets Broad street. We
Carl and Rachal
Let the drunken debauchery begin....did manage to find some decent little bars up in the hillside and spent the night drinking and reminiscing! Suprisingly early we returned back to the room to settle down. But this was not to be the end of our night........
...........At about 2am we were just drifting off to sleep when we were awoken by an "intruder". With us almost in the land of nod, we were startled awake by our door being thrown open and a very posh, very drunk woman shouting, "So much for not sleeping with my brother!!". Totally stunned, mouths hanging open, we just stared at this girl, who suddenly realised her mistake and stumbled away muttering apologies. After a solid minute of uncontrollable laughter, we then realised that she had not
Zorbing
"I am not a number, I am a Free Man"
(Name that Show -Answers on a postcard) made it very far and was now arguing with a tree outside!! My stupid gentle side got the better of me, so I decided to try and help the girl. This turned into a never ending and treacherous saga to long to go into here! Lets just say I didnt get her back safe to her friends until about 6 am and experienced many many "moments" along the way!! Lucy says that

im a gentlemen for helping - I think I must be a mug!
So that was Lucy's birthday. Probably not the very best she's had, but I'm kinda glad that something memorable and hilarious happened; it's certainly a birthday that we wont forget.
So there you have it! While our previous weeks have been mind broadening, this past 2 weeks has been a shining example of slobbish lazyness. Apologies if you tuned to be educated!! Oh.....I have been practising my juggling and can now report I can sucessfully juggle with 4 balls. Lucy is not sure what use this skill will be back home, but I'm considering adding
Zorbing (2)
When can I come out of quarantine? it to my CV!
We face a daunting 24 hour journey to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) from 6am tommorrow, where our next installment will be set.
Ok, well cheerio for now and apologies again to our moms!!
