Hello all,
On Monday morning we took a short taxi ride to Bo Phut Beach at the north of the island. It was nice to have a short transfer for a change although we seem to be quite used to the whole airport routine now (we're up to ten flights in four weeks now!)
We had already visited the north coast to check out the beaches and arrange the hotel a couple of days before, so we knew what to expect. (if any other bloggers reading are intending to take a couple of days out in a good hotel, for the sake of a few hundred baht in a taxi, we would recommend this to you - some of the ‘top’ hotels are not quite as great when you see them in the flesh!, also makes a nice afternoon out as a break from hectic Chaweng).
To us, Bo Phut is perfect - a quiet beach overlooking Ko Pha Ngan (another big island) in the distance. Our hotel/resort is amazing and we’ve got a great ‘garden bungalow suite’ set in tropical gardens, close to the pool and beach. We’ve also got an ‘interesting’ bathroom the size of our
No fighting for sunbeds here!
We seem to have the resort almost to ourselves at the moment. living room, a shower you could fit ten in and plenty of electrical gadgets around the room to keep Chris amused for hours!
Best of all, the resort is so quiet and peaceful; all the staff are very friendly and helpful. It’s classed as ‘low season’ on Samui at the moment so, although it does rain a little, most of the day is very hot and sunny, and there’s only about half a dozen other couples in the whole hotel complex. Today we have the whole pool to ourselves!
The ‘internet office’ here is free and one of the best air conditioned rooms we’ve come across, so it’s actually quite nice to get out of the hot sun for a few minutes and type this!
A ten minute stroll along the beach is ‘Fisherman’s Village’ which is more how we pictured a coastal village in Samui to be. Unsurprisingly with a name like that, it’s full of good quality seafood joints but also home to a selection of quieter ‘trendy’ bars and other restaurants, nearly all overlooking the beach. A very nice evening out and one of the strangest things is that the small gift shops seem
In a beach bar last night
nearly a month in and Jax samples her first beer - but don't worry, Chris made up for it....very noble of him I hear you say! to be selling things we wouldn’t mind buying for a change!
Last night we took a stroll along the beach and found a great bar serving diner right on the moonlit beach next to a fire - it was great and like something out of a film set.
Well we had planned to see a lot more of Ko Samui and do some walking / touring, but we’re enjoying the resort and sun so much, we’re steering towards doing nothing for the last couple of days. (not bad for a couple who get bored lying in the sun but the Budhas, beaches and waterfalls can’t be too much different to the ones we’re already seen surely?)
One of the few things we have found on the beach are little beach huts offering a multitude of massages and pampering services....Jax felt like a princess, having a manicure and pedicure simultaneously and got a great picture of Chris being arched over a Thai masseuse pulling a classic face. (Sadly he won't allow it to be published on this blog for your entertainment - anyone one who wants a laugh, pop round when we're back and Chris is out and
Our beach
very peaceful and quiet! I'll show you - Jax 😊
Hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to seeing you all after the weekend (those of you who know us that is!! - with over 1600 ‘hits’ so far and only 22 subscribers reading our entries we realise it’s NOT just our family and friends reading, hence the useless advice mixed in the blog entries!)
We really don't want to leave this beautiful island, but sadly a long appointment with a 747 awaits in less than 2 days. No doubt our hot sun and candlelit beaches will soon be swopped with cold winds and christmas lights! We can't complain, its been a fabulous month. Hope you've all enjoyed the blogs, thanks once again for all your comments (sadly they weren't all suitable to publish :-))
